NEW PROPERTY for 2024!

Be prepared to have your breath taken away by the fabulous position Chy Rani occupies and the endless suffering you will have to endure looking out at the stunning views!  Oh....and by the way, whilst drifting off to sleep, you can hear the sea and waves gently lapping the shore below - how amazing is that?!

Looking down and out across the beach at Portmellon this charming, former fisherman's cottage is bursting with charm and is the perfect little Cornish hideaway for a couples retreat, romantic getaway or special occasion.

Portmellon itself boasts a super beach, pub and seasonal snack bar.  The hiring of watersport equipment is also available in Portmellon (during the season) and the beach (thanks to its relatively sheltered position) is great for kayaking and paddle boarding.

Talking of kayaking, a short paddle towards Gorran Haven and you will find the beach at Great Perhaver.  This beach is very difficult to access from the land so is a haven for anyone with a boat or kayak to visit.

At the top of Portmellon, a downhill walk takes you into the nearby fishing village, Mevagissey.  Here you will find an array of places to eat along with small, independent shops.  The lovely harbour area is a pleasant place to sit and watch the comings and goings of the local fishermen bringing in their catch of the day.

Just two miles from Portmellon you will find the villages of Gorran and Gorran Haven.  The beach at Gorran Haven is lovely and well worth a visit.  The Barley Sheaf pub in the little village of Gorran is a firm favourite with visitors and locals alike.

The world renowned visitor attractions -  Lost Gardens of Heligan and the Eden Project are just 3 and 10 miles from Portmellon respectively.

Heating

This property is heated via electric heaters.

Chy Rani is what's known as a Cornish over/under cottage and its accommodation is to the ground and first floor only.  The third and fourth floor in the main picture belong to the neighbouring cottage.

Each cottage in the terrace has its own outside space overlooking the beach. Outdoor seating provided.

As you would expect with a terrace arrangement of old cottages, guests staying in the cottages have right of way across the frontage of all the cottages.

From the pay and display car park in Portmellon you will walk just a few metres up the hill towards Mevagissey.  There is a blue gate on your right which takes you down (via a series of steps) to the cottages on Seaview Terrace.  Chy Rani is the cottage with the recognisable, red stable door.

Charlestown Shipwreck and Heritage Centre
(5 miles)

(1)

An all-weather attraction where children go free, Charlestown Shipwreck Centre takes you back two hundred years, when the area was a tiny fishing village with no harbour.  As trade boomed in nearby St Austell, it became clear that there was need for a proper harbour, and local businessman by the name of Charles Rashleigh set about making plans – hence the name (Charles’ town).  Today the Shipwreck and Heritage Centre charts the history of this corner of Cornwall, including the ship wrecks off the nearby coast.  There are trails, a visual audio theater, the RNLB Amelia which was last stationed at Scarborough, and a German armoured dress diving suit, which was used in the 1920/30's, amongst other pieces of history.  There’s also a Kids’ Corner and plenty to see and do for the whole family.

Interesting for those prepared to engage with the stories presented. Very informative guidebook with plenty to read. The upstairs restaurant was far from great (we just went in for a coffee which was... unpleasant). We would say to ignore the discount which comes with the museum entry ticket and try one of the nearby cafes instead.
