The famously beautiful Helford Estuary is found between Falmouth and the Lizard Peninsula in West Cornwall, where the clear waters of the Helford River slow down to meet the sea, creating a beautiful landscape of sleepy creeks and hidden sandy coves surrounded by sun-dappled woodland and rolling fields.

The pretty waterside hamlet of Helford Passage sits on the northern shore of the estuary with a lovely sandy beach backed by whitewashed cottages and the popular Ferryboat Inn. The Helford River Ferry launches from the pontoon and skims across the water throughout the day linking Helford Passage with Helford Village on the opposite bank; and bathers, kayakers, small boats and paddle boarders all have plenty of room to share the tranquil waters of the estuary.  With most of our cottages to be found moments from the beach, holidays in Helford Passage revolve around the water, and from their iconic beach kiosk Helford River Boats can provide everything you possibly need for a memorable day out.  Hire a paddleboard or kayak and explore the many quiet creeks nearby including Frenchmans Creek, made famous by Daphne du Maurier in her novel of the same name.  Or pack a picnic and pick up a motor launch to explore a little further afield perhaps stopping for a swim and picnic in a shady cove. Or simply buy a bucket and net with your little ones to explore the miniature underwater worlds of the many rockpools exposed at low tide.

Other days can be spent exploring the beautiful riverbank and coastline on the coastal paths which link Helford Passage with neighbouring Durgan, Maenporth and Trebah.  Garden enthusiasts will be delighted to stop off and explore the fabulous tropical gardens at Trebah and the beautiful National Trust gardens at Glendurgan. And a holiday in Helford Passage wouldn’t be complete without a trip to the Cornish Seal Sanctuary in Gweek where holidaymakers can watch the rescued seals relax and recuperate before being released back into the wild.

And after a busy day out on the water, relaxing on the beach or exploring the area, what could be better than a cool drink and some delicious food at the Ferryboat Inn at one of their outdoor tables overlooking the beach, or nipping across the estuary for sundowners at The Shipwrights Arms in Helford Village, before falling asleep in your comfortable holiday cottage so you can enjoy it all again tomorrow.

On demand service. We used the river boat service to travel from the Ferry Boat Inn on one side of the river to explore the sleepy and picturesque village on the other. Happy to take under 5s too.

Amazing company - our daughter and friend hired kayaks and boats, and despite running the latter aground, the staff were good humoured and helpful. (Sorry folks, but we'll be back next year!).

Too expensive to use the ferry. Adds £36 for 4 to go for a meal at the Shipwrights or coffee at Holy Mackeral. Sorry for those two businesses

Always excellent. We have had boats on the river for years, always well looked after in our absence. Also use the ferry occasionally, excellent, also buy ice cream etc from the kiosk. Everything you or a child could possible want! An essential part of the HP experience. Keep up the good work, and thank you.
