Set on a pretty hilltop surrounded by lush farmers’ fields, holidays in St Mabyn offer you the chance to escape the hustle and bustle of daily life and fill you days with country walks and cosy evenings in a country pub.

But there’s much more to St Mabyn than initially meets the eye. Set between Bodmin Moor and the north coast, just three miles east of Wadebridge, holidays here offer you a gateway to several of Cornwall’s most loved beaches, attractions and must-visit villages. Wake up in one of the village's pretty old cottages, start the day with a stroll to the community-run village shop to stock up on tea and toast, then start planning the day’s adventure.

If you’re spending your summer holiday in St Mabyn, head to the coast for surf sessions, balmy beach days and coastal walks; Polzeath, Daymer Bay and Rock beach are all just eight miles away. Hire bikes from Wadebridge and cycle the beautiful estuary-side tracks of the Camel Trail to Padstow for fish and chips and a Doom Bar ale or a fresh fruits-de-mer platter at Rick Stein’s. Or pedal the other direction to explore Bodmin, one of Cornwall’s oldest towns. Picture-perfect Port Isaac is also only a 15-20 minute drive away where you can visit Doc Martin’s House, browse the trinket shops and galleries, and enjoy a fresh crab sandwich or piping Cornish pasty while soaking up the views.

If you choose to holiday in St Mabyn outside of the high season, there’s still lots to do. Head to the rugged wilds of Bodmin Moor to hike the tors and spot moorland ponies, before heading home to the St Mabyn Inn, where you’ll be greeted with a roaring fire, well-kept ales and a big plate of locally-sourced, seasonal home cooked food. Wadebridge is also well worth a visit whatever the weather, with its plethora of pubs, restaurants, shops and supermarkets, as well as a leisure centre, cinema and weekly street market.

Camel Trail
Camel Trail
(4 miles)

(2)

Perfect for cycling, the Camel Trail is an 18-mile largely traffic free, surfaced and virtually level, multi-use trail that you can use to explore the Cornish countryside. The track brings back to life a disused railway line that runs between Wenfordbridge, Bodmin and Padstow. It's ideal for bicycles, wheelchair users, horse riders and walkers, and is broken down into three main sections set up to around six miles each, which is probably more manageable than the total 18 miles, on an average day at least! It's free to use, bike hire is available at Padstow, Wadebridge, Bodmin and Wendfordbridge and toilets are in situ along the trail and in Padstow town centre.

Flat 6 miles walk from Wadebridge to Padstow (or Padstein as we called it!). Plenty to look at but no facilities, there was a closed cafe 2 miles short of Padstow. Lots of cyclists so listen out for them.

Great cycle trail for the whole family.
