Offering wonderful sea views over Porthcothan Bay this detached house is set within the village of Porthcothan, less than 5 miles outside the picturesque fishing village of Padstow and benefits from direct access to the beach via a footpath at the bottom of the spacious secluded rear garden (not suited to any guest with limited mobility).

Long Cove was built in the late 1930's and has been in the ownership of the current owners family since 1953. The property has been comfortably and traditionally furnished with sea views across the striking Porthcothan Bay from the ground floor accommodation and further sea views from two first floor bedrooms.

The property offers parking for three cars upon a paved pathway with two gates and steps giving access to the garden and patio leading to the front door.  A single step up to the front stable door leads into the ground floor hallway which provides access to the bathroom W.C with a bath, electric shower over and basin. A couple of steps lead down to the ground floor W.C and utility room.

From the hallway a door opens into the well equipped kitchen with an Aga, plenty of storage and wonderful sea views stretching the expanse of Porthcothan Bay. To one side of the kitchen is a breakfast bar which provides glorious views over the beach and door which leads out to the rear decking. This room then leads into a comfortably furnished lounge/dining room with comfortable lounge seating arranged in front of a central fireplace, a dining table and chairs alongside a piano arranged in front of the picture window with coastal views. Off the lounge is the owners study (which guests are welcome to use) and where you will find the Broadband router, telephone with honesty box and highchair.

To complete the ground floor accommodation there is a games/reading room well equipped with books and games. This room then leads into the ground floor twin bedroom with sea views and en-suite bathroom W.C with a Jacuzzi bath, wash hand basin and heated towel rail.

From the kitchen, a carpeted narrow steep staircase with handrail leads up to the first floor where there are three comfortable and simply furnished bedrooms, a W.C and shower room both with a basin. There is a small step up to the W.C and the hallway which leads to the bedrooms and a small step down into the tiled shower room. There is one double and two twin bedrooms, one with a cot.

The garden spans three sides of the property with established trees and shrubs, sloping lawns with direct access onto the beach via a gate and rough path.

A raised decking area benefits from glorious sea views expanding the full length of Porthcothan Bay with informal bench seating.

The closest village of St Eval, approximately 3 miles away, has a village shop and post office. The fishing village of Padstow is within a 15 minute drive and offers various shops and a good selection of fish restaurants particularly Rick Stein's and Paul Ainsworths No 6, Padstow Museum and a Tesco Supermarket. It is possible to hire bicycles to explore The Camel Trail which runs from Padstow to Wadebridgeand boat trips running from the harbour and a ferry across to Rock.

Alternative nearby beaches include Constantine Bay, approximately 2.5 miles away and Harlyn Bay, within a 10 minute drive. Both of these beaches, and Porthcothan Bay, are dog friendly beaches all year round. From Porthcothan Bay there is access to the South West Coast path.
The nearest golf course to the property is Trevose which is situated approximately 2.5 miles away. Prideaux Place & Gardens is an Elizabethan Manor and Gardens and is within a 15 minute drive.

Our rating method, the popular "smiles" system is generated entirely by the feedback we receive from our visitors. The number of smiles is arrived at by taking the average grading given to the question:

How would you rate the cottage's fittings, furnishings and equipment?’

A property will achieve a rating of 5 Smiles down to 1 Smile, although it is our policy not to carry any properties with ratings lower than 3 Smiles. The customer chooses from the following ratings:
  1. Excellent
  2. Good
  3. Satisfactory
  4. Below standard
  5. Poor
There are a number of properties that have been recently added to our portfolio and these are graded "New".
Pets

There is an extra charge for pets, most commonly at £24 pppw (per pet per week).

Assistance dogs are of course welcome in all our cottages free of charge, however owners of them should be aware that a considerable number of people are allergic to dogs and in some cases can have a severe reaction. Owners are therefore encouraged, where at all possible, to choose a property which normally allows pets.

Some properties accept pets other than dogs, but in all cases we are required to confirm consent from the cottage owner. Please contact the office on 01208 895 354 if you would like to take a pet other than a dog with you to one of our cottages.

A 5% loyalty discount is available at some properties for guests returning for a second or further holiday within 2 years through Cornish Traditional Cottages. If you are eligible for the Loyalty Discount your final balance payment will be reduced accordingly after your booking has been submitted. The Loyalty Discount cannot be claimed with any other discount.

Pricing information

All prices are per week per property. Many properties promote an all inclusive price although some charge for extras such as bed linen, towels, heating and/or electricity. The Property description will detail any extra charges.

Reserved: When a property is not yet available to be booked, a customer can 'Reserve' the property in their name on a first come first served basis. When Cornish Traditional Cottages and the owner have agreed availability and pricing for your selected period we will contact you to let you know if you can then book the property in your name. A Reservation does not guarantee a booking because the owner has first right of refusal on all availability.
Short breaks

There are few better places to take a short break than in Cornwall. They can frequently be arranged, mainly out of season though, for periods to suit guest's particular requirements, but there is always a minimum rental, for practical reasons.

Cornwall in the early Spring is usually blessed with fine warm weather. It is this climate which brings out the wild flowers and spectacular gardens which make this time of year such an ideal one for a holiday. During July and August and other busy times of the year short break holidays are normally only available at short notice, but please enquire and we will do our best to accommodate you.

If short breaks are available, the cost of a short break is calculated as follows:
3 nights: 70% of weekly rental price
4 nights: 80% of weekly rental price
5 nights: 90% of weekly rental price
6 nights: 100% of weekly rental price
