The Old Malt house is a sympathetically restored and furnished detached house dating back to the early 16th Century located in the ancient capital of Cornwall, Lostwithiel, which sits on the river Fowey about five miles from the sea. The property is within walking distance of the many independent retailers, antique shops and restaurants the town has to offer.

Set back from the main road a gravelled parking area provides parking for two cars with a door opening into the ground floor accommodation with tiled flooring and underfloor heating. A fitted kitchen with breakfast table and chairs and door opening onto North Street is located to one side, with a wet room W.C with basin and heated towel rail to one side of the staircase and two steps opening into the light and spacious living room with comfortable seating to one side and a dining table and chairs set in front of the bi folding doors opening onto the enclosed courtyard garden.

A carpeted staircase with twelve steps leads up to the first floor carpeted landing off which are three comfortably furnished bedrooms. A double bedroom facing the street with a timber floor and rug with an en-suite shower room W.C, with a step up into the shower, wash hand basin and heated towel rail and a twin bedroom with timber floor. A further two steps continue to the family bathroom W.C with a tiled floor, central bath, wash hand basin and heated towel rail and the master bedroom which is a light and spacious room with large window overlooking the enclosed courtyard garden and surrounding buildings, an impressive four poster bed, timber floor and en-suite shower room W.C with tiled floor a step up into the corner shower, wash hand basin and heated towel rail.

Outside is an enclosed paved courtyard garden with raised beds and an arch with a deep granite trough. A locked gate gives access onto an alley and a short walk to Lostwithiel's town centre. You can stroll through the Riverside Park and picnic by the water's edge with salmon and trout fishing available on the river and the historic Restormel Castle to explore. Bodmin to the north and St Austell to the south are 6 and 10 miles respectively by car and offer a wider range of shopping facilities with the popular harbour villages of Fowey, PolperroLooe and Mevagissey all within a 30 minute drive. For garden lovers the Eden Project and Lost Gardens of Heligan are 12 and 14 miles respectively. There are cycling trails at Cardinham and Lanhydrock with the Camel Trail connecting St Breward on the Moor to Padstow on the North coast within driving distance.

PLEASE NOTE
- This property welcomes two small dogs or one medium sized dog only

Sleeps
Close
When a property shows 'sleeps' in the format X-Y, X equals the maximum number of adults that can comfortably be accommodated and Y indicates the maximum number of adults + children that can be comfortably accommodated in the property.
Customer Rating
Close
Our rating method, the popular "smiles" system is generated entirely by the feedback we receive from our visitors. The number of smiles is arrived at by taking the average grading given to the question:

How would you rate the cottage's fittings, furnishings and equipment?’

A property will achieve a rating of 5 Smiles down to 1 Smile, although it is our policy not to carry any properties with ratings lower than 3 Smiles. The customer chooses from the following ratings:
  1. Excellent
  2. Good
  3. Satisfactory
  4. Below standard
  5. Poor
There are a number of properties that have been recently added to our portfolio and these are graded "New".
Pets
Close
There is an extra charge for pets, most commonly at £24 pppw (per pet per week).

Assistance dogs are of course welcome in all our cottages free of charge, however owners of them should be aware that a considerable number of people are allergic to dogs and in some cases can have a severe reaction. Owners are therefore encouraged, where at all possible, to choose a property which normally allows pets.

Some properties accept pets other than dogs, but in all cases we are required to confirm consent from the cottage owner. Please contact the office on 01208 895 354 if you would like to take a pet other than a dog with you to one of our cottages.

Definitions

Booked: A customer has committed to a holiday period by paying a deposit or the full amount for a rental period.

Reserved: When a property is not yet available to be booked, a customer can 'Reserve' the property in their name on a first come first served basis. When Cornish Traditional Cottages and the owner have agreed availability and pricing for your selected period we will contact you to let you know if you can then book the property in your name. A Reservation does not guarantee a booking because the owner has first right of refusal on all availability.
Short breaks
Close
There are few better places to take a short break than in Cornwall. They can frequently be arranged, mainly out of season though, for periods to suit guest's particular requirements, but there is always a minimum rental, for practical reasons.

Cornwall in the early Spring is usually blessed with fine warm weather. It is this climate which brings out the wild flowers and spectacular gardens which make this time of year such an ideal one for a holiday. During July and August and other busy times of the year short break holidays are normally only available at short notice, but please enquire and we will do our best to accommodate you.

If short breaks are available, the cost of a short break is calculated as follows:
3 nights: 70% of weekly rental price
4 nights: 80% of weekly rental price
5 nights: 90% of weekly rental price
6 nights: 100% of weekly rental price

It is important to note that a 'Reserved' period can only be booked if the owner wishes to make the 'Reserved' period available for booking. Upon completion of your reservation you will receive confirmation by email or post containing details of the reservation.
