A picturesque, very traditional, comfortable detached house in an unspoilt little creekside hamlet on a tributary of the Fowey river. The original Mill House for the unrestored mill on the edge of the stream it is set into sloping ground and entered at first floor level reached from the parking area by an uneven granite and cobbled path that crosses the unused mill leat at one point.

The stable door set beneath a slate roof opens into a hallway with cloaks area to one side. This delightful house has low beamed ceilings, latch doors and interesting alternatives to vertical walls. The sitting room set to one side of the hall is comfortably furnished with the original fireplace and views from the window and window seat down over the front lawn to the stream.

On the other side of the hall a beamed kitchen / dining room has similar views, country pine furniture and pine units. There is one small bedroom on this level with a 2ft 6inch single bed.

Rather steep stairs lead up to a landing with two further bedrooms, both very spacious, beamed and with views across the valley and down the creek, one with a double bed and hand basin, the other with two 3ft beds and one 2ft 6inch bed and a hand basin. A bathroom W.C. with hand basin and shower over the bath completes the accommodation.

A grassy garden, with useful outside W.C., surrounds the house, edged by the river along one side and not a place for unsupervised toddlers or young children but a delight for older ones. There is offroad parking for 2 vehicles with further parking on the private grass verge adjacent to the property. There is a little bridge crossing over Penpoll Creek where it is possible to launch canoes and small dinghies at high tide, 25 yards away. One pet only accepted.

Please note:
Bed linen is available at £14 per double & £7 per single per week to be paid on arrival. Towels are not available. Broadband available via BT Openzone Hotspot.

When a property shows 'sleeps' in the format X-Y, X equals the maximum number of adults that can comfortably be accommodated and Y indicates the maximum number of adults + children that can be comfortably accommodated in the property.
Customer Rating
Close
Our rating method, the popular "smiles" system is generated entirely by the feedback we receive from our visitors. The number of smiles is arrived at by taking the average grading given to the question:

How would you rate the cottage's fittings, furnishings and equipment?’

A property will achieve a rating of 5 Smiles down to 1 Smile, although it is our policy not to carry any properties with ratings lower than 3 Smiles. The customer chooses from the following ratings:
  1. Excellent
  2. Good
  3. Satisfactory
  4. Below standard
  5. Poor
There are a number of properties that have been recently added to our portfolio and these are graded "New".
Pets
Close
There is an extra charge for pets, most commonly at £24 pppw (per pet per week).

Assistance dogs are of course welcome in all our cottages free of charge, however owners of them should be aware that a considerable number of people are allergic to dogs and in some cases can have a severe reaction. Owners are therefore encouraged, where at all possible, to choose a property which normally allows pets.

Some properties accept pets other than dogs, but in all cases we are required to confirm consent from the cottage owner. Please contact the office on 01208 895 354 if you would like to take a pet other than a dog with you to one of our cottages.

Definitions

Booked: A customer has committed to a holiday period by paying a deposit or the full amount for a rental period.

Reserved: When a property is not yet available to be booked, a customer can 'Reserve' the property in their name on a first come first served basis. When Cornish Traditional Cottages and the owner have agreed availability and pricing for your selected period we will contact you to let you know if you can then book the property in your name. A Reservation does not guarantee a booking because the owner has first right of refusal on all availability.
Short breaks
Close
There are few better places to take a short break than in Cornwall. They can frequently be arranged, mainly out of season though, for periods to suit guest's particular requirements, but there is always a minimum rental, for practical reasons.

Cornwall in the early Spring is usually blessed with fine warm weather. It is this climate which brings out the wild flowers and spectacular gardens which make this time of year such an ideal one for a holiday. During July and August and other busy times of the year short break holidays are normally only available at short notice, but please enquire and we will do our best to accommodate you.

If short breaks are available, the cost of a short break is calculated as follows:
3 nights: 70% of weekly rental price
4 nights: 80% of weekly rental price
5 nights: 90% of weekly rental price
6 nights: 100% of weekly rental price

It is important to note that a 'Reserved' period can only be booked if the owner wishes to make the 'Reserved' period available for booking. Upon completion of your reservation you will receive confirmation by email or post containing details of the reservation.

Mill House - Testimonials

  • "Lovely venue, rustic house, amazing area." Mrs A James-Gets
  • "We enjoyed our stay in this peaceful cottage which is in a great location, very close to Fowey and Bodinnick. A beautiful part of Cornwall with lots to do locally." Mrs E Sturley
  • "A beautiful cottage in a peaceful place, highly recommended." Mr E Hopper
  • "Mill House and the location is idyllic. The setting is stunning, especially in the Autumn when the tide is high and the swans visit, it's magical. The property opposite reflects in the water and it's breathtaking. It's the peace and tranquility which is a great attraction for us. At night you can regularly hear five or six owls talking to each other. We'd ideally like to keep such places secret - but that would be selfish." Mr J Rodgers
  • "This is a lovely house in a beautiful location. It is perfect for launching small boats as the creek is at the end of the garden over a small bridge." Ms A Livesey
