Please note: No mobile phone signal. Dog will need to be kept on lead when outside due to neighbouring livestock in fields.

Situated in a peaceful valley with views of Mevagissey Bayfrom the upstairs inverted accommodation, this semi detached double glazed barn conversion, built of local stone and slate, is set above the pretty little coastal village of Pentewan. The property was once a stable housing the ponies which pulled the cargo from the port to the railway station in St Austell back in the 1800's when it was a thriving harbour although now just the dock basin remains of the old harbour.

The property is set at the end of a long steep narrow track (no mobile phone signal) that leads to a gravelled parking area with space for one car and the front door opens to an entrance hall with a bathroom W.C. with hand basin and shower over the bath. There are two ground floor bedrooms, one on either side of the hallway with a double and twin beds respectively, both overlooking the banks of the wooded valley.

Carpeted stairs lead up to a galleried sitting room on the first floor with exposed beams rising to the apex and pine flooring. There is a small breakfast suite and comfortable lounge furniture enjoying views down the valley towards the sea from French Windows that open inwards with a Juliette balcony. To complete the accommodation, leading off to one side is a fully fitted kitchen with dining table and chairs.

At the far end of the lounge, patio doors open to external timber railed steps which lead down to the front of the property with a small slate paved terrace and a recently grassed area of lawn with restful views towards the coast; the garden is not enclosed and therefore not for adventurous toddlers or pets. A public bridleway passes directly in front of the property ideal for exercising dogs and it is a 10 minute walk down the hill to the village pub, safe sandy beach and the coastal footpath.

The Ship Inn, half a mile, is a small friendly pub across the road from the old disused harbour and there is a garage with a store/P.O. three quarters of a mile away. The working fishing village of Mevagissey is 2.5 miles by road where a seasonal ferry operates to Fowey and for a wide selection of amenities the town of St Austell is 4.5 miles. Watersports, diving and sailing are available locally, Pentewan Valley cycle hire is nearby, and for garden lovers the Eden Project, Lost Gardens of Heliganand Pine Lodge Gardens are all within a 15 minute drive. There is a bistro and restaurant at Pentewan Sands Holiday Park available to non-residents.

Sleeps
Close
When a property shows 'sleeps' in the format X-Y, X equals the maximum number of adults that can comfortably be accommodated and Y indicates the maximum number of adults + children that can be comfortably accommodated in the property.
Customer Rating
Close
Our rating method, the popular "smiles" system is generated entirely by the feedback we receive from our visitors. The number of smiles is arrived at by taking the average grading given to the question:

How would you rate the cottage's fittings, furnishings and equipment?’

A property will achieve a rating of 5 Smiles down to 1 Smile, although it is our policy not to carry any properties with ratings lower than 3 Smiles. The customer chooses from the following ratings:
  1. Excellent
  2. Good
  3. Satisfactory
  4. Below standard
  5. Poor
There are a number of properties that have been recently added to our portfolio and these are graded "New".
Pets
Close
There is an extra charge for pets, most commonly at £24 pppw (per pet per week).

Assistance dogs are of course welcome in all our cottages free of charge, however owners of them should be aware that a considerable number of people are allergic to dogs and in some cases can have a severe reaction. Owners are therefore encouraged, where at all possible, to choose a property which normally allows pets.

Some properties accept pets other than dogs, but in all cases we are required to confirm consent from the cottage owner. Please contact the office on 01208 895 354 if you would like to take a pet other than a dog with you to one of our cottages.

Definitions

Booked: A customer has committed to a holiday period by paying a deposit or the full amount for a rental period.

Reserved: When a property is not yet available to be booked, a customer can 'Reserve' the property in their name on a first come first served basis. When Cornish Traditional Cottages and the owner have agreed availability and pricing for your selected period we will contact you to let you know if you can then book the property in your name. A Reservation does not guarantee a booking because the owner has first right of refusal on all availability.
Short breaks
Close
There are few better places to take a short break than in Cornwall. They can frequently be arranged, mainly out of season though, for periods to suit guest's particular requirements, but there is always a minimum rental, for practical reasons.

Cornwall in the early Spring is usually blessed with fine warm weather. It is this climate which brings out the wild flowers and spectacular gardens which make this time of year such an ideal one for a holiday. During July and August and other busy times of the year short break holidays are normally only available at short notice, but please enquire and we will do our best to accommodate you.

If short breaks are available, the cost of a short break is calculated as follows:
3 nights: 70% of weekly rental price
4 nights: 80% of weekly rental price
5 nights: 90% of weekly rental price
6 nights: 100% of weekly rental price

Reservations
Close
Weeks marked as 'Reserve' (highlighted in blue) can only be 'Reserved' (ie they cannot be booked) at this point in time because availability and prices have not yet been agreed with the owner. You can reserve these weeks in your name on a first come first served basis until availability and pricing has been agreed.

It is important to note that a 'Reserved' period can only be booked if the owner wishes to make the 'Reserved' period available for booking. Upon completion of your reservation you will receive confirmation by email or post containing details of the reservation.
