Within easy reach of the beaches at Duporth and Porthpean and half a mile from the famous 18th century harbour side village of Charlestown, a world heritage site, this former gate house to the Charles Rashleigh Estate at Duporth has been lovingly and sympathetically restored. Duporth Lodge provides a comfortable family home furnished to a very high standard. It retains many of the original features and is a great base to explore the many villages, attractions, walks and beaches the South Coast has to offer. Duporth Lodge is ideal too for an out of season stay for couples in need of some much needed R&R with the adaptable property able to provide a cosy and comfortable base for two.

From the gated gravel drive, a level path and three steps open into the entrance vestibule and to one side a gothic arched door leads into a smart triple aspect sitting room with oak effect laminate flooring, comfortable lounge seating set before a gas coal effect fire and French doors leading to a covered verandah. A further Gothic arch from the vestibule leads through to the dining room with laminate floor, dining table and chairs for six and a carpeted staircase to the first floor. Cleverly tucked under the staircase is a small cloakroom with W.C and basin. Glazed double doors open into the light modern well equipped kitchen with a small breakfast table, two tub chairs set either side of the wood burning stove and French doors leading out to the enclosed patio perfect for alfresco dining.

From the dining room a carpeted staircase leads to the first floor landing with exposed beams rising to the apex of the roof. Off the landing are three comfortable bedrooms; a master double with king size bed and en-suite fully tiled shower WC and basin and two twin bedrooms with two 2'6 single beds, both of which can be combined to make a 5ft kingsize bed. To complete the first floor accommodation is a family bathroom with corner bath, enclosed shower cubicle with led lighting, W.C and basin.

There is parking for three cars and a garden hugs three sides of the property with a double garage for storage of bikes and beach gear, a level grassed lawn, three steps leading up to the enclosed sheltered patio and a graveled incline back to the front of the property. When the driveway is gated the grounds are enclosed.

Charlestown only a 3 minute drive with its, restaurants, tea rooms, pub, hotel and Shipwreck & Heritage Centre is the nearest village. The larger centre of St Austell, 1.8 miles, has a good choice of supermarkets and shops, a railway station, bowling alley, cinema and 4 golf courses nearby. Porthpean beach three quarters of a mile has a sailing club and the fishing harbours of FoweyMevagissey are only 8 and 6 miles respectively. The Eden Project and Lost Gardens of Heligan are within a 10 - 15 minute drive. Newquay Airport and the North Coast are within 30 minutes.

Sleeps
Close
When a property shows 'sleeps' in the format X-Y, X equals the maximum number of adults that can comfortably be accommodated and Y indicates the maximum number of adults + children that can be comfortably accommodated in the property.
Customer Rating
Close
Our rating method, the popular "smiles" system is generated entirely by the feedback we receive from our visitors. The number of smiles is arrived at by taking the average grading given to the question:

How would you rate the cottage's fittings, furnishings and equipment?’

A property will achieve a rating of 5 Smiles down to 1 Smile, although it is our policy not to carry any properties with ratings lower than 3 Smiles. The customer chooses from the following ratings:
  1. Excellent
  2. Good
  3. Satisfactory
  4. Below standard
  5. Poor
There are a number of properties that have been recently added to our portfolio and these are graded "New".
Pets
Close
There is an extra charge for pets, most commonly at £24 pppw (per pet per week).

Assistance dogs are of course welcome in all our cottages free of charge, however owners of them should be aware that a considerable number of people are allergic to dogs and in some cases can have a severe reaction. Owners are therefore encouraged, where at all possible, to choose a property which normally allows pets.

Some properties accept pets other than dogs, but in all cases we are required to confirm consent from the cottage owner. Please contact the office on 01208 895 354 if you would like to take a pet other than a dog with you to one of our cottages.

Definitions

Booked: A customer has committed to a holiday period by paying a deposit or the full amount for a rental period.

Reserved: When a property is not yet available to be booked, a customer can 'Reserve' the property in their name on a first come first served basis. A Reservation does not guarantee a booking because the owner has first right of refusal on all availability.
Short breaks
Close
There are few better places to take a short break than in Cornwall. They can frequently be arranged, mainly out of season though, for periods to suit guest's particular requirements, but there is always a minimum rental, for practical reasons.

Cornwall in the early Spring is usually blessed with fine warm weather. It is this climate which brings out the wild flowers and spectacular gardens which make this time of year such an ideal one for a holiday. During July and August and other busy times of the year short break holidays are normally only available at short notice, but please enquire and we will do our best to accommodate you.

If short breaks are available, the cost of a short break is calculated as follows:
3 nights: 70% of weekly rental price
4 nights: 80% of weekly rental price
5 nights: 90% of weekly rental price
6 nights: 100% of weekly rental price

Reservations
Close
Weeks marked as 'Reserve' (highlighted in blue) can only be 'Reserved' (ie they cannot be booked) at this point in time because availability and prices have not yet been agreed with the owner. You can reserve these weeks in your name on a first come first served basis until availability and pricing has been agreed.

It is important to note that a 'Reserved' period can only be booked if the owner wishes to make the 'Reserved' period available for booking. Upon completion of your reservation you will receive confirmation by email or post containing details of the reservation.

Duporth Lodge - Testimonials
Close
  • "Three generations had a wonderful holiday a Duporth Lodge. The cottage is extremely well appointed and decor and furnishings are excellent but it is still very homely and in no way do you feel restricted by your surroundings. We planned to eat out often but it was so convenient to cook simple meals and enjoy the late evening together with a bottle of wine round the dining table that we never did! Domestic needs are easily catered for by supermarkets close by and although we intended to travel for sightseeing we found more than enough within easy reach. I don't know why I am praising Duporth Lodge so much as we really ought to keep it a secret just for those who know it. " Mr D Howsam
  • "Duporth Lodge is superb. Exceptionally clean and well equipped and furnished. Lovely location close to Charlestown, perfect for exploring the area." Mr R Champ
