On the banks of the River Camel in the heart of North Cornwall, Wadebridge is a busy hub of activity. The old market town is filled with independent shops, cafes, restaurants and supermarkets, and boasts a busy calendar of events, from the weekly local produce market to Cornwall Folk Festival and the Royal Cornwall Show.

The best thing about holidays in Wadebridge is how easy it is to reach North Cornwall’s beautiful sandy beaches and old fishing villages. Within a short drive you can reach Polzeath, famous for its surf, the exclusive seaside village of Rock - home of the rich and famous, picturesque Port Isaac and its white-washed fisherman’s cottages, the mystical ruins of Tintagel Castle and stunning Bodmin Moor. You’ll be spoilt for choice for days at the beach, with Daymer Bay, Constantine, Trebarwith Strand and many more sandy bays and tiny coves, all within 10 miles.

North Cornwall is fast becoming a foodie hotspot, so you could spend every day of your holiday in Wadebridge trying somewhere new. Head to Padstow for Rick Stein’s famous fish and chips or fine dining at The Seafood Restaurant, try Michelin star Outlaw’s Fish Kitchen in Port Isaac, run by celebrity chef Nathan Outlaw, or treat yourself at Paul Ainsworth @ No6.

But Wadebridge’s most famous feature is the Camel Trail, which winds its way along the edge of the Camel Estuary for 18 miles, from Padstow all the way to Bodmin Moor. No holiday in Wadebridge is complete without cycling or setting off on foot along this famous trail. It’s traffic-free, surfaced and relatively level the whole way, so it’s great from families. Dog-walkers, and all ages and abilities. We recommend hiring bikes in Wadebridge and setting off to Padstow where you’ll be treated with stunning coastal views and plenty of places to pick up a pasty as a reward when you arrive.

Discover beautiful North Cornwall and all it has to offer when you book a holiday in Wadebridge.

Camel Trail
Camel Trail
(Less than a mile)

(2)

Perfect for cycling, the Camel Trail is an 18-mile largely traffic free, surfaced and virtually level, multi-use trail that you can use to explore the Cornish countryside. The track brings back to life a disused railway line that runs between Wenfordbridge, Bodmin and Padstow. It's ideal for bicycles, wheelchair users, horse riders and walkers, and is broken down into three main sections set up to around six miles each, which is probably more manageable than the total 18 miles, on an average day at least! It's free to use, bike hire is available at Padstow, Wadebridge, Bodmin and Wendfordbridge and toilets are in situ along the trail and in Padstow town centre.

Flat 6 miles walk from Wadebridge to Padstow (or Padstein as we called it!). Plenty to look at but no facilities, there was a closed cafe 2 miles short of Padstow. Lots of cyclists so listen out for them.

July 2023

Great cycle trail for the whole family.

Rock Beach
(4 miles)

(1)

Rock beach is a beautiful long white sand beach located on the mouth of the Camel Estuary. This Area of Outstanding natural beauty is a haven for wading birds and the prefect spot for a swim in the clear blue waters or a picnic admiring the fantastic views. The beach is backed by sand dunes, please try to avoid walking on the dunes and keep to the footpaths where provided as there has been a huge amount of erosion in recent years. Dogs are welcome on the beach all year round and there is easy access to shops and all facilities including public toilets. Parking can be found in the car park just behind and access is via a ferry slipway or steps.

What a fabulous beach, dog friendly all year, when the tide is out the beach is huge, our dogs had a brilliant time. The car park is reasonable priced and toilets were clean.

Daymer Bay

Located on the East side of the River Camel. Sand and dunes. Dog friendly.

Let's tackle the two downsides first. The narrow single track lane descending to the car park ican be challenging at busy times. The other one - the sheltered position means no waves for boarding. Great sandy beach, safe for kids with a good size car park and easy access down to the sands. Great views over the Doom Bar. Easy to walk down to Rock Beach and St Enodoc's church is worth a visit.

Polzeath Beach
(5 miles)

(2)

Visit one of Cornwall’s most famous surfing hubs. Polzeath Beach near Wadebridge is the perfect spot for all you wet-suited surfers, whether novice or pro. Take a lesson in surfing or catch some waves on a body board before heading to browse the local shops and visit the cafes and restaurants along the sea front. For those walkers amongst you, enjoy an easy coastal walk to nearby Daymer Bay and Rock found on the mouth of the Camel Estuary. Parking is plentiful and dogs are welcome on the beach except between Easter Sunday and 30 September when a seasonal dog ban is in place.

Lovely sandy beach that is patrolled by life guards. Though busy there are several large car parks and plenty of room on the beach for all even when the tide is in. Lots of eateries and a surf school.

June 2022

One of the few beaches that isn’t dog friendly so we didn’t stop, but it looked nice from the car park

September 2021

Port Quin
(5 miles)

(1)

A rocky beach in a narrow, sheltered cove, Port Quin Beach is close to Port Isaac, and is only accessible at low tide.  Its rugged landscape is beautiful to see, but its location means that it’s largely popular with seasoned walkers and those looking to go snorkeling and kayaking.  Unspoiled and peaceful, it reveals a treasure trove of rock pools when the tide is out, and the nearby village is largely deserted, having once had thriving fishing and mining industries.  Today both the cove and the village are owned by the National Trust and there is a car park courtesy of them in Port Quin.  Dogs are banned between Easter and October, and there aren’t any facilities nearby – it’s all about enjoying the peace and quiet.

Could park nearby and enjoyed a cream tea from the 'Salt Pig' van in the carpark. Paddled here and ran the dog one evening, and walked a bit more of the coast path.

September 2019

Port Isaac Beach
(6 miles)

(2)

Since the arrival of Doc Martin on the small screen, Port Isaac has soared in popularity, and the pretty little village with the historic harbour, which also serves as the beach, has become instantly recognisable.  Still an active fishing village with crab pots scattered about, the sand stretches between twin piers at low tide and has a small stream and lots of rock pools to explore, so it’s ideal for children.  Dogs are allowed on the beach all year round, and as it’s at the centre of the village there’s easy access to shops and all facilities including public toilets.  The car park for the town is a 10-minute walk away, and while there are a couple of parking spaces on the beach itself, just make sure you park above the high water mark, or keep an eagle eye on the tide!

Lovely setting worth a look, dog friendly.

July 2022

Worth a visit, about half a mile walk from the car park, the return journey is quite steep but there is a shuttle taxi for those less able to manage the walk. Beautiful little harbour beach and of course doc Martin’s surgery. We ate in the hotel beer garden, food and drink was nice and reasonable priced.

February 2024

We had an amazing time, two weeks of beautiful weather and great family time. Thank you for taking care of us and checking if we are comfortable. Our children enjoyed the garden and little shed with beach toys.

September 2023

Property owners were a lovely couple who were very attentive to our needs. The garden is large with lovely views across the fields and estuary. The beds were very clean and comfortable (some of the best we’ve slept in) and the shower was very good. It’s a good base for exploring surrounding areas with Padstow and Rock about a 10/15 min drive away. It has also got very handy amenities of Tesco, B&M and M&S express nearby. Wadebridge town is also a short walk away. It’s on a quiet road with quiet neighbours. We will definitely stay again when in that area. It was also nice to find a property that wasn’t extortionately priced in the school holidays!

September 2023

Many thanks for improving the weather for us. It has been beautiful and allowed us to visit and enjoy many places in our list. Thank you also for advice about the parking at Port Isaac saved us from very tight road down by the harbour. Really enjoyed our stay in your lovely house the bed was so comfy for a goodnights sleep after days of walking climbing and breathing in the lovely sea air.

August 2023

Convenient location, lovely helpful owners, loved the history of the house. This is a fabulously sized property and garden in a lovely road. We felt that to reach its full potential (& to maximise income! ) a bit of modernising along with reconfiguring the layout would be advantageous. The new open plan kitchen dinner could be amazing with a few soft furnishings/sofas to take in the lovely view from the back of the property. Kitchen needs a few more plates/bowls as we found we were washing up a lot instead of using the dishwasher (lazy I know but we were on our hols!) nonetheless we enjoyed our stay in one of our favourite parts of the country .

August 2023

This is a return visit ( about 4 th time) The place is perfect for for our needs in Cornwall … the price is perfect for our requirements and location is perfect for our needs with family and the dog - the large garden is perfect - the new open plan kitchen is a large improvement . My favourite place in Cornwall .

August 2023

Thank you for a lovely stay. We’ve really enjoyed our time here and will definitely return again. Thank you for being great hosts and making sure that we were comfortable. For anyone reading this we recommend The Pityme Inn in Rock. Lovely place and great food. We ate in a pod which was a lovely experience and the boys loved it.

July 2023

Nice area and location but house needs updating ASAP and far to expensive for how it is at present.

July 2023

The weather was beautiful for our week and we would stay in Wadebridge again but not at this property unfortunately.

July 2023

Thanks for a great return visit the alterations are wonderful and the place was as wonderful as ever. Hopefully a return visit will be in order. It was lovely to meet you at last and thanks for your lovely vegan cake upon arrival very much appreciated after our long journey, we had a lovely time.

June 2023

Thank you for our second wonderful visit had such a lovely time we felt that you are very attentive and kind. Was lovely to meet you we will be back later in the year.

June 2023

Thank you for another wonderful stay at Daffy Down Dilly. Thank you also for your kind card and gift. It was very thoughtful and greatly appreciated. The card inspired us to go to the Cornwall Show which we greatly enjoyed.

May 2023

We’ve enjoyed a wonderful week yet again at Daffy Down Dilly such superb weather for our beach walks and coast paths. The banks and verges bursting with such colour and scents, so uplifting.

May 2023

Thank you so much for a very relaxing and enjoyable stay. It was lovely to meet you both. We loved the history that you had written in the book. It made us feel so much at home we didn’t want to leave.

February 2023

A really super house - huge garden and very well equipped. Lovely views over the countryside from the spacious kitchen/diner. Lots to see and do within a 20 minute drive. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend and anticipate returning in the future.

August 2022

This is such a lovely house, really well situated in wadebridge. The shortbread and tea on arrival was most welcome.

June 2022

Fabulous location, gorgeous large garden, lovely homeowners. We will definitely be back

March 2022

When the electricity tripped on 2 occasions, the owners were extremely helpful and clearly explained how to do a simple fix. It was so close to where my son and grandchildren lived so was brilliant for such easy access. I can not wait to go back

May 2021

Very comfortable and cosy house with lovely views in a good location.

May 2019
