With far reaching views over St Ives Bay and just two miles from the beach at Gwithian. Cowslip, Skylark and Meadowside are three thoughtfully renovated, attractive and comfortable properties on a 100-acre working farm once part of the Basset family estate. Set at the end of a long farm drive and within easy reach of all the golden sands and surfing beaches in the vicinity, this is a very convenient base from which to explore mid and west Cornwall, well placed for family holidays. The area abounds with footpaths and bridleways through woodland, nature reserves, open countryside and Tehidy Country Park, and both golf, riding and a surf school are available locally.

The South West Coastal Path offers glorious scenery, in particular the dramatic viewpoint at Hells Mouth half a mile away and Godrevy Point, 2 miles, overlooking the lighthouse on Godrevy Island. There are pubs offering food in the villages of Gwithian and Portreath, 2 miles respectively, and a good selection of shops and a supermarket in the town of Hayle about 3 miles away. St Ives is about a 20 minute drive with its picturesque harbour, narrow cobbled streets and home to the Tate Gallery. The old farmyard offers ample car parking, there is undercover storage for bicycles and beachgear, and both stabling and grazing for horses are available.

Hayle is a thriving Cornish town blessed with one of the most beautiful beaches in the county. The beach is cradled with rolling sand dunes on one side, opposite some of the most exciting waves for beach days and surfing that Cornwall has to offer.

The town holds World Heritage Site status because of its fascinating past as an important trading post for tin, copper smelting and two iron foundries - which created the epicentre for steam engine manufacturing in the 19th Century. Nowadays, Hayle holidays beckon visitors looking for a laid back, beachy vibe with easy convenience that the friendly town has to offer. Hayle is packed with terrific independent shops and galleries showcasing local artists, traditional bakeries, grocers, and delicatessens, as well as a few well-known high street names and some large supermarkets to stock up on supplies.

Good food is in plentiful supply from the throng of popular restaurants catering for every taste and budget. Cafes, takeaways and traditional fish and chips are also in abundance to take back to your cottage for an easy dinner after a day’s adventures. As with many Cornish towns and villages on the coast, Hale too has a collection of historic pubs daubed with tales of smugglers. The locals also love their music, and you’ll often find the pubs and bars hosting live bands.

Walks around the surrounding coast and countryside are a must in this glorious spot of Cornwall. When on holiday in Hayle, take time to explore the town as well. Head to the harbour, grab an ice cream and watch the boats bobbing about while the fishermen tinker with their nets and lobster pots. Maybe stroll to the estuary and pools to spot rare and migrating birds before exploring fairy-lit walks in the evening. If you visit during the summer months, Hayle’s residents put on a sensational flower display in the town’s public areas and gardens for their annual Hayle in Bloom festival.

There are a bounty of indoor as well as outdoor adventures to be had. Families staying in Hayle are well-catered for with a dedicated Skate park for teens and outdoor go-karting. There’s cycle hire in the town, two close-by golf courses and a pitch and putt. Go bowling, take a deep-sea fishing trip or take to the saddle like Poldark for hacks and walks for all ages and experience. Hayle is also home to Paradise Park wildlife sanctuary where you can see parrots, otters, penguins, owls, red squirrels, and lots of other creatures, plus a large indoor adventure play park called The Jungle Barn.

The main attraction to Cornwall and particularly this fantastic little town is its coastline, and more specifically the year-round attraction of its epic beach – Hayle Towans. This is one area of Cornwall where no matter how busy the region gets, you’ll always find a place on Hayle Towans three miles of gorgeous sandy beach to throw down your towels with plenty of space around you.

Hayle Towans and nearby beaches of Gwithian and Godrevy attract world-class surfers and wind-powered sports enthusiasts. They holiday in Hayle for thrills on the waves, land speed sails (which are huge beach skateboards attached to windsurf rigs), and blokarts, a type of beach go-kart with a sail. There’s plenty of space for everyone as the beach is so big. If you fancy lessons or want to hire equipment and wetsuits, there are providers dotted along the beach and in the town.

Hayle Towans is also good for swimming with lifeguarded areas. Bring buckets and spades, ball games and a kite or two. The sand dunes offer a hugely different, more relaxed feel which during the summer are sprinkled with wildflowers and butterflies.

Take a walk across the dunes and National Trust cliff-top coastline to Hell’s Mouth for incredible vistas where seals can often be seen playing in the surf. This whole area of mining landscapes, breathtaking jagged cliff faces and the mighty Atlantic waves crashing into the rocks, is a mecca for walkers and holidaymakers looking to chill out and wind down.

For a holiday full of thrills, excitement, and fun with the convenience of a well-equipped friendly town, Hayle is the place to be.

September 2021

We LOVED this property and had a fabulous stay. The barn is in well equipped and furnished. We had a lovely warm welcome from the owner who showed us around, nothing was too much trouble. The surrounding countryside is peaceful and picturesque but there is still easy access to main towns. We are already looking when we can book again! Thank you to the owners for making us so welcome.

We have just returned from a weeks stay, the accommodation was lovely with a few personal touches you wouldn't expect. The view from the outside seating area was great. Ideal place to stay and explore the area.
