Set in the peaceful rural hamlet of Pendrift, just half a mile from the picturesque village of Blisland and a short walk onto Bodmin Moor, 'A Bit On The Side' is a newly constructed spacious single storey stone cottage attached to the owner's property.  Offering a rural retreat for those wishing to explore Bodmin Moor, yet only a 25-minute drive from some of Cornwalls most dramatic coastal walks and beaches of the Camel Estuary, the spacious property offers a warm and relaxing environment year round with double glazing, central heating and a wood burning stove.

Located at the end of a narrow country lane, the cottage is entered from the gravelled parking area with a step up through the front door into the small entrance hall. The main living accommodation is on one level with timber flooring.  A comfortable double bedroom with a 5ft king size bed to one side of the entrance hall with a large bathroom WC with overhead shower, wash hand basin and heated towel rail next door and a light and spacious living space on the other side with a well-equipped fitted kitchen, comfortable leather lounge seating arranged before the woodburning stove completes the living space.

French doors and a step down open into the conservatory with slate floor, dining table and chairs and further comfortable conservatory furniture.  A door leads out onto the sunny patio garden.

There is ample private parking outside the front of the cottage with a small patio running the length of the cottage round into the sunny patio garden with a central patio surrounded by gravel with a raised bed, low Cornish wall and timber fence and gate separating the owners drive and stables. The owner can offer stabling for anybody wishing to bring their pony / horse with them on holiday. Please note there is occassional shared access of the driveway only with the neighbour.

The village of Blisland is less than half a mile away and can be reached by car or on foot down the country lane and has a beautiful church, village shop/Post Office and a traditional pub all centred around the village green.  Directly from the cottage you have access to a wide selection of footpaths and bridleways with access onto Bodmin Moor.

The historic town of Bodmin is a fifteen-minute drive and has a wide range of amenities including two supermarkets, a sports centre, golf course, cycle hire and a mainline railway station. The coastal towns of Wadebridge and Padstow are10 and 17 miles respectively and have a range of independent shops, cafes and restaurants including Rick Steins in Padstow. The Camel Trail connects to Padstow and Wadebridge from Bodmin.  Woodland and cycle trails can be found at Lanhydrock and Cardinham a twenty minute drive away, with the historic houses of Lanhydrock, Prideaux Place and Pencarrow all within 10 miles.

Our rating method, the popular "smiles" system is generated entirely by the feedback we receive from our visitors. The number of smiles is arrived at by taking the average grading given to the question:

How would you rate the cottage's fittings, furnishings and equipment?’

A property will achieve a rating of 5 Smiles down to 1 Smile, although it is our policy not to carry any properties with ratings lower than 3 Smiles. The customer chooses from the following ratings:
  1. Excellent
  2. Good
  3. Satisfactory
  4. Below standard
  5. Poor
There are a number of properties that have been recently added to our portfolio and these are graded "New".
Pets

There is an extra charge for pets, most commonly at £24 pppw (per pet per week).

Assistance dogs are of course welcome in all our cottages free of charge, however owners of them should be aware that a considerable number of people are allergic to dogs and in some cases can have a severe reaction. Owners are therefore encouraged, where at all possible, to choose a property which normally allows pets.

Some properties accept pets other than dogs, but in all cases we are required to confirm consent from the cottage owner. Please contact the office on 01208 895 354 if you would like to take a pet other than a dog with you to one of our cottages.

A 5% loyalty discount is available at some properties for guests returning for a second or further holiday within 2 years through Cornish Traditional Cottages. If you are eligible for the Loyalty Discount your final balance payment will be reduced accordingly after your booking has been submitted. The Loyalty Discount cannot be claimed with any other discount.

Pricing information

All prices are per week per property. Many properties promote an all inclusive price although some charge for extras such as bed linen, towels, heating and/or electricity. The Property description will detail any extra charges.

Definitions

Booked: A customer has committed to a holiday period by paying a deposit or the full amount for a rental period.

Reserved: When a property is not yet available to be booked, a customer can 'Reserve' the property in their name on a first come first served basis. When Cornish Traditional Cottages and the owner have agreed availability and pricing for your selected period we will contact you to let you know if you can then book the property in your name. A Reservation does not guarantee a booking because the owner has first right of refusal on all availability.
Short breaks

There are few better places to take a short break than in Cornwall. They can frequently be arranged, mainly out of season though, for periods to suit guest's particular requirements, but there is always a minimum rental, for practical reasons.

Cornwall in the early Spring is usually blessed with fine warm weather. It is this climate which brings out the wild flowers and spectacular gardens which make this time of year such an ideal one for a holiday. During July and August and other busy times of the year short break holidays are normally only available at short notice, but please enquire and we will do our best to accommodate you.

If short breaks are available, the cost of a short break is calculated as follows:
3 nights: 70% of weekly rental price
4 nights: 80% of weekly rental price
5 nights: 90% of weekly rental price
6 nights: 100% of weekly rental price
