Very friendly but not enough tables inside to have a meal. Think you have to book because there was tables with reserved on them.

August 2023

I took the opportunity to dine here on a number of occasions within the last 10 days whilst staying in Polgooth. The food options are varied and of a high standard served within a wonderful rural setting by friendly interactive staff. I will certainly revisit when in the area again.

Charlestown Shipwreck and Heritage Centre
(3 miles)

(1)

An all-weather attraction where children go free, Charlestown Shipwreck Centre takes you back two hundred years, when the area was a tiny fishing village with no harbour.  As trade boomed in nearby St Austell, it became clear that there was need for a proper harbour, and local businessman by the name of Charles Rashleigh set about making plans – hence the name (Charles’ town).  Today the Shipwreck and Heritage Centre charts the history of this corner of Cornwall, including the ship wrecks off the nearby coast.  There are trails, a visual audio theater, the RNLB Amelia which was last stationed at Scarborough, and a German armoured dress diving suit, which was used in the 1920/30's, amongst other pieces of history.  There’s also a Kids’ Corner and plenty to see and do for the whole family.

Interesting for those prepared to engage with the stories presented. Very informative guidebook with plenty to read. The upstairs restaurant was far from great (we just went in for a coffee which was... unpleasant). We would say to ignore the discount which comes with the museum entry ticket and try one of the nearby cafes instead.

Very relaxing stay in beautiful and peaceful surroundings. We couldn't get Internet access but this was not an issue for us.

June 2022

Fabulous location with friendly non intrusive hosts within the site.

September 2021

Polgooth was a lovely unspoilt cornish village with a rich mining heritage, which we were keen to explore, and would thoroughly recommend the area for a relaxing break. We come to Cornwall each year, and we would definetely return to both the area and this particular property. We had hoped to eat one night in the Polgooth Inn, but unfortunately could not get booked and instead ate at the Hewas Inn in nearby Sticker on the recommendation of a sweets Garage employee. Very busy but managed to fit us in, had to wait a while for food, but well worth the wait, great food, friendly and welcoming staff and would recommend to anyone.

September 2020
