St Mawes with its glorious castle is a twenty minute drive from Portloe.   A passenger ferry from St Mawes to Falmouth operates throughout the year and Falmouth is well worth a visit with this popular maritime town being home to the world renowned National Maritime Museum.

More beaches around the Roseland Peninsula and Carne remain relatively uncrowded during the summer months with a few of them dog friendly too. These beaches include Portscatho (mainly rocky) and Porthcurnick beach (the latter being dog friendly) which are both 6 miles away.

The picture postcard anchorage of Portloe lies sheltered along the stunning Roseland Peninsula. Described by former Poet Laureate, Sir John Betjeman, as ‘one of the least spoiled and most impressive Cornish fishing villages’, the white-washed cottages, rope coils and lobster pots paint a timeless scene.

Holidays in Portloe are best spent exploring the coastal trails that hug this beautiful stretch, from the far-reaching views of Nare Head to the craggy coves of the Molunans. You’ll also be surrounded by some of the region’s most beautiful beaches, the sandy shores of Pendower Beach, the hidden gem of Hemmick and the golden sweep of Towan among the many lesser-known bays that pepper this enchanting coastline.

When you book a self-catering holiday in Portloe you’ll be able to come and go as you please, taking full advantage of the many country pubs found tucked away along sleepy harboursides - perfect for whiling away an hour or two. In Portloe itself, you’ll find the Ship Inn, a pretty white-washed, flower-clad pub serving hearty food and Cornish ales.

There are also a plethora of sights and attractions nearby, including the Eden Project’s incredible rainforest biomes and The Lost Gardens of Heligan - excursions the whole family will enjoy. Make sure to visit stunning Caerhays Castle, just a 10-minute drive away

Culture vultures will be riveted by the nearby cathedral city of Truro and maritime village of St Mawes on the mouth of the Fal estuary, both steeped in history and jostling with art galleries, exhibitions, annual gatherings and festivals, not to mention the many artisan shops, cafés, restaurants and bistros. Plan a visit to Veryan, a beautiful village famed for its round thatched cottages. Paddle the Carrick Roads estuary or hop aboard a boat cruise to explore the gentle waterways of the River Fal.

Enjoy nothing but halcyon days and quiet, starry nights when you book a holiday in Portloe.

Unreserved parking is normally available in the village car park (30 yards from property) where payment for parking is via the honesty box and a weekly fee of £10 is required or £2 per 24 hours.
