Description

Experience - The Area...

With lovely views down over the fields to the sea and just one mile inland from the picturesque coastal village of Downderry, this sensitively converted early 19th century detached stone barn stands in a peaceful rural setting to one side of the owner's farmhouse. Offering spacious family accommodation the property is just a 5 minute drive to the sand and shingle beach at Downderry with rock pools at low tide.

All the village amenities are just a 5 minute drive including a local shop/post office, cafe, restaurant and pub with carvery. For walkers, the coastal footpath leads to Looe westwards and east to Whitsand Bay, and there are wooded walks inland through the Seaton Valley Countryside Park.

Looe, 8 miles, offers pleasure boat and fishing trips, there is diving at the HMS Scylla artificial reef and there are several golf courses and gardens in the immediate area to explore including St Mellion, Whitsand Bay and Lanhydrock. Plymouth is half an hour by car and The Eden Project is a 40 minute drive.

Stay - The Accommodation...

A short level path leads to the front door, set beneath an open porch roof, which opens to a small lobby and half a dozen steps lead straight up to an open-plan living room with beams rising to the apex of the roof and a light and airy decor. There is a comfortable seating area with two futon sofa beds for alternative sleeping arrangements; a dining suite is arranged in the middle of the room and a well equipped, modern fitted kitchen.

French Windows from the lounge open to a raised decking area with timber railings, patio furniture and tranquil views over the surrounding countryside to the coast beyond. In one corner of the living room, an inner hallway gives access to two pleasantly furnished bedrooms; a double bedroom with an en-suite shower room W.C. with hand basin and a twin bedded room. A bathroom W.C. with hand basin and shower over the bath completes the accommodation.

The barn is fronted by a large sheltered courtyard ideal for childrens outdoor games and there is a hardcore parking area for 2 cars. Visitors are welcome to pick their own vegetables from the owners one acre of vegetable garden nearby and may also mindfully explore the surrounding fields. The owner also offers a taxi service to and from the local villages and bed and breakfast accommodation is available in the adjacent farmhouse.

The property was in a wonderful location and the owners were very helpful - they took us to and back from the village for a celebration meal and left fresh produce from the farm. We also booked their B&B rooms for the weekend. Nothing was a problem or too much trouble. We had a great week and would not hesitate to return if we needed a place in that area. - Mrs B Rumfitt
"The Old Wagon House is a lovely comfortable old property with fantastic views of the countryside, hills and beach at Downderry. Looking forward to returning again next year. " Mr A Budd
"A home away from home. Dogs as well as us were made to feel very comfortable. House had everything we could possibly need, even freshly picked potatoes. Breathtaking views. 5 minute drive to town, shop, restaurants and bars. 6 minutes to lovely Seaton beach. Food, bars, dogs loved the beach, fantastic. " Miss E Carballo
