Port Isaac is a beautiful picturesque fishing village in North Cornwall. The original 'Poldark' series was filmed here and the more current and popular 'Doc Martin' drama. The village really is as remote and beautiful as it looks.
Historical 18th and 19th-century whitewashed cottages with scented flower filled hanging baskets adorn the steep hillsides either side of this port. Nestling safely between rugged and dramatic high rocky cliffs, the area has a timeless atmosphere. A unique labyrinth of narrow streets and alleyways wind in and around the cottages, so make sure you know your way back before setting off to the pub.
The scattered single keel fishing boats lay sharply to one side at low tide waiting patiently for the harbour to fill, so the fisherman can head out to sea for their catch. You can park your car on the beach at low tide, but beware the incoming tide, many a visitor has been caught out by the swiftness of its flow.
Port Isaac is an ideal location both in and out of season. The local pubs and restaurants offer fresh local produce and Cornish hospitality. During summer wander down to the harbour on a Friday evening to listen to the rousing and joyful shanty songs of the famous 'Fishermans Friends'. Spectacular scenery entices you to Port Isaac while the beaches, walks and pace of life make it the perfect self catering location for your holiday in Cornwall.
