If a break from the hum-drum of life is what you’re craving, book a holiday in St Merryn; one of Cornwall’s hidden gems. The region surrounding St Merryn includes an impressive five and a half mile stretch of coastline. There are outstanding clifftop hikes, post-card worthy bays and golden beaches all crowned by a grand Victorian lighthouse - a holiday here is hard to beat.

Located on Cornwall’s breath-taking northern coastline, with bustling Padstow two and a half miles to the west, St Merryn welcomes visitors all-year-round. There are seven seaside bays – one for each day of the week! Five of the seven bays allow dogs all year round, so you can bring your four-legged friend along too. Our collection of dog-friendly cottages in St Merryn means they can join you for days running about on the beach, bouncing through the seafoam surf.

Holidays in St Merryn aren't only about the beach. A walk up to the lighthouse at Trevose Head is a great way to spend time. Pack a picnic and sit on the clifftop for far reaching sea views dotted with fishing boats, seals and maybe a couple of dolphins playing in the waves below. Close by, the RNLI lifeboat station (open weekdays) is nestled into the craggy cliffs. Visit and learn all about the dangerous, adrenaline-fuelled rescues, and if you’re lucky you may be able to speak to one of the RNLI volunteers.

When you think of holidays in Cornwall, surfing comes to the forefront of your mind. Holidays in St Merryn are no exception, with nearby Harlyn Bay allowing you to experience an array of heart-racing watersports, including surfing, paddle boarding, coasteering and kayaking. This part of Cornwall offers some of the best waves in the country. If you want to give surfing a try, the staff at the surf school offer lessons on how to ride the waves and stay safe before you head out and have the time of your life.

If ocean fun isn’t your thing, the nearby South West Coast Path is a great way to spend a day or two lazily trekking at your own pace. Enjoy inspiring scenery stopping at historic pubs for lunch and a tipple along the way. There’s also the option for an adventure on horseback. Local stables offer accompanied walks and treks through the countryside and secluded lanes.

With amazing surfing experiences, golden beaches and picture-perfect scenery, holidays in St Merryn give you the opportunity to rest, relax and recharge.

Approached by a secure gated driveway where there is parking for two cars adjacent to the owners garage.

National Lobster Hatchery
(3 miles)

The National Lobster Hatchery is a unique organisation whose work in conservation, research and education separates them because they work specifically with a commercial species.  A charity based in Padstow, their work helps to make lobster sustainable in the UK, as the species alone is worth an estimated £30m a year. Both the Scandinavian and Mediterranean stocks have completely collapsed, so the hatchery aims to ensure global food security for future generations by facilitating the survival rate of eggs in the wild.  When you visit you can learn all about their work and support conservation.  They are open on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10.15am, but opening times are seasonal so keep an eye on the website.  Prices are £12 for adults or £6 for children.

August 2023

I’ve stated in lots of holiday cottages in Cornwall over the years and this was far and away the best. Elizabeth was so welcoming and all the extra touches were wonderful and made all the difference. The cottage was immaculate and had everything you could need. Tea, coffee, milk and biscuits on arrival were a really lovely and unexpected touch. The linen was luxurious. Everything was perfect.

August 2023

I found this little gem by accident and what a find it turned out to be! Tucked away in it own little corner, surrounded by nature. So quiet, private and peaceful, just heavenly if you need to restore your batteries. The property itself is compact but roomy enough for 4 people and 2 medium dogs. The furnishings are well presented, clean and comfortable. We didnt use the sky tv but it was there if needed. The kitchen was so well equipped, everything you could need was provided. Washing machine, tumble and a dishwasher!!! I shall be packing a lot lighter next time we visit! The hosts were lovely people. Just next door but very unobtrusive unless required. The fluffy towels were gorgeous. The vliiage centre is about a 10 minute walk away and there is a regular bus service to Padstow and beyond if you fancy leaving the car behind. It even goes via Harlyn beach so you can avoid the parking, which can be hideous in high season. There is a lovely pub just around the corner ( literally) and great fish and chips in the village. We loved this property so much that by day 3 we'd already booked two return visits. Cant wait! Very good value for money and a perfect position...what more can I say!

September 2022

Overall, excellent facilities - very homely and welcoming - and an ideal size for the two of us with a small dog. A good amount of garden space - again, ideal with the dog - and both peaceful and private. Would definitely recommend, providing people are aware of the journey up the road to the village.

August 2022

We thoroughly enjoyed our few days. Elizabeths additional touches (water ready for the dog on arrival) just went that extra mile, and made us feel really welcome. Would have no hesitation in recommending the property and host to anyone.
