A Grade 2 beautifully renovated and tastefully furnished barn set amidst the owner's three acre small holding located less than 5 miles from the edge of Bodmin Moor.  The property is situated in idyllic Cornish countryside and is within easy reach of some of the County's prettiest and most interesting places to visit.

Dolittles Den has been given its name due to the small holding being home to an array of animals including three Alpacas, Pip and Michael the family ducks, two golden Labradors Dennis and Helga as well as roosters and chickens laying free range eggs. In addition, because the location is so peaceful and tranquil 'doing little' is precisely what you will be experiencing staying here! The owners even provide a convenient outdoor market stall exclusively for guests staying at Dolittles Den so that on arrival and throughout your stay you can purchase fresh, locally sourced produce including honey from the neighbouring bees! Talking of bees, guests staying at Dolittles are welcome (by prior arrangement) to bee keep where equipment and training are provided free of charge, buzzingly brilliant!

If you decide to venture away from the comfort of Dolittles Den then the village of St Cleer with traditional Cornish pub and farmers' market shop and cafe is less than 4 miles away.  For a greater selection of amenities including leisure centre with family friendly indoor pool and mainline train station serving London Paddington, the town of Liskeard is just 2 miles. The fabulous Golitha Falls on the Southern edge of Bodmin Moor are within an easy 5 mile drive. Looe and the beaches close by is a 9 mile drive with crab fishing on Looe harbour a must!

Entrance

A slightly sloping Cornish stone pathway leads down to the front stable door.

Living Room

Light and airy open plan living space with views from the dining area out across the fields. Comfy easy seating, television, attractive wooden floors, original beams and latched doors all add interest. A focal wood burner provides effective supplementary heating to the electric panel heating throughout the property.

Kitchen

The modern, well equipped kitchen provides ample storage and work surface space with all the usual appliances provided including dishwasher, fridge/freezer, seperate wine fridge, electric hob and oven, microwave and washer/dryer. Two shallow steps ascend to the rear hallway giving access to;

Bedroom 1

A comfortable double bedroom with views of the garden

Bedroom 2

A pretty twin bedroom to the rear with views of the neighbouring fields

Bathroom

The family bathroom WC has a bath, overhead electric shower and wash hand basin.

Outside, there is a large enclosed lawn garden for fun and games and with garden furniture provided so mum and dad can relax whilst the children play safely and securely.  Impressive barbecue also provided for alfresco dining.... Dolittles style!

On the southern fringes of Bodmin Moor, where the hills relent to the gentle banks of the Looe valley, lies the handsome market town of Liskeard. Once an ancient manor belonging to the Earl of Cornwall, it was the tin-mining boom of the 19th Century that brought much wealth and prosperity into the town, reflected in some of Liskeard’s elaborate architecture.

Today, the high street - having been recently revived by retail doyen, Mary Portas - is lined by shops with pretty facades and flowerful hanging baskets. Showcasing Cornwall’s exceptional local produce, Liskeard boasts artisan bakers, delicatessens and farmers’ markets, all on hand to add some culinary flair to your self-catering holiday.

You can easily fill a day exploring this timeless town; the Liskeard Museum offers a fascinating window into an illustrious past, the medieval Stuart House is now a hub for arts and heritage, and the healing waters of The Well of St. Martin all add to the town’s rich cultural tapestry.

If it’s action and adventure you seek, the thrills and spills of Adrenalin Quarry and the mountain bike trails of Cardinham Woods are sure to set the pulses racing. The upland wilds of Bodmin Moor and the tranquil backwaters of the Looe Valley provide ample opportunities for walkers, with a cosy country pub never far away.

Cornwall consistently ranks as one of the most family-friendly holiday destinations in Europe, and with award-winning attractions such as the Eden Project’s spectacular rainforest biomes and the Arthurian castle ruins of Tintagel on offer, it’s easy to see why.

When you book a holiday in Liskeard, you’ll find several of the south coast’s most enchanting beaches and picturesque fishing villages all within a short driving distance. Alternatively, you might decide to board a carriage on the Looe Valley line and enjoy one of the West Country’s most scenic coastbound trips - the choice is yours!

A shared gated driveway leads up to the property with parking for two cars on a gravelled surface to the front.

- This property accepts two dogs of any size.

- LOYALTY DISCOUNT available with this property

- This property accommodates a maximum of 4 people plus 1 infant

August 2021

Lovely meal. Felt very comfortable even with the Covid restrictions and social distancing. Food and service were excellent.

August 2020

Unfortunately with the restrictions they have put into place, eating out of polystyrene boxes is unacceptable. I would say the way they are operating is unacceptable. You eat there once and don’t go back. You are made to feel like a leper, definitely unclean. This is not the case in other pubs and restaurants nearby.

August 2020

We enjoyed a fabulous meal at the Plough during our stay in Trenant Park Cottages. The menu is good and they offer a good range of specials. The portions are hearty, and the food excellent quality. They are also dog friendly. I would highly recommend.

October 2019

Excellent . Need to book in advance particularly at weekends

Home of zip wires, coasteering, a giant swing and axe throwing they offer the complete adrenaline experience. Priding themselves on the number of adrenalin junkies, thrill seekers, bold mums and dads, toddlers, grandpas, little boys and girls, and old ladies that flock to South East Cornwall for the chance to fly down a zip wire or power a hovercraft solo around the quarry lake, they like to prove themselves as the place to go for outdoor adventures. Cornwall is home to a wealth of extreme sports and this is a wonderful place to start – they even offer hen and stag parties, or wedding parties for the truly dedicated.

Seaton Beach - Cornwall
(8 miles)

(9)

A spacious, grey sand beach that’s popular with families, Seaton Beach enjoys views across the green, surrounding countryside and walks in Seaton Valley nearby. At low tide the beach stretches all the way from Seaton Beach to Downderry Beach.  There are facilities close by and there is are two car parks as well as road parking, but it does get busy quickly in the summer.  The beach is great for surfing, but do be wary of undercurrents.  There’s also a café and beach shop close by as well.  Dogs are welcome at the beach all year round.

Millendreath Beach
(8 miles)

(1)

Millendreath Beach is a south facing beach at the foot of a wooded valley, in a sheltered cove with soft sand and lots of rock pools to explore at low tide.  It’s connected to other nearby beaches by the South West Coast Path.  Dogs aren’t allowed on this beach at any time of the year, and there is a reasonably sized car park a few minutes walk away.  The beach is popular with families on holiday in Cornwall, and most of the surrounding area is occupied by a holiday park, so there are lot of facilities open to the public.

Plaidy Beach
(8 miles)

(1)

A small and pleasant grey sand beach with rocks exposed at low tide, Plaidy Beach is simply a nice place to visit and take in the scenery.  There aren’t any facilities, and there’s no parking nearby so it’s one to reach on foot.  There’s a slipway to the beach, but you will have to access it by walking along the coast path, parking at Millendreath or Looe and it’s worth keeping in mind that it’s quite steep from both directions.  Millendreath is closer and the walk should take around 20 minutes.  Dogs are allowed on the beach all year round, so it’s a charming place to take them for a walk while you’re in the area.

Great to walk to at low tide on the beach or at high tide via the footpath. Great dog friendly beach.

August 2018

Hannafore Beach
(8 miles)

(9)

Half a mile west of Looe, stretching along the coast, Hannafore Beach is a sandy, shingle bay with a rocky reef and views of St George’s Island.  At low tide it’s brimming with rock pools, making it fun and games for the whole family to enjoy, and it’s a wonderful sun trap in summer months thanks to its south east facing position.  Because of its location over the river, the beach never really becomes too busy, but equally there aren’t any facilities nearby.  It’s popular with dog walkers as it’s amongst the few dog-friendly beaches in the area, and having explored you can extend your excursion to a stroll along the promenade or a potter around the coast path to the wonderfully scenic Talland Bay.  There is roadside parking along the sea front above the beach, but it can be difficult to find a space.  Alternatively, there is a large car park in West Looe, around 10 minutes away on foot.
