Less than a 30 minute drive from Port Isaac and Tintagel on the stunning North Coast and with an abundance of moorland walks on the doorstep, this beautifully renovated property was once the pulpit and organ loft of a 19th century chapel. One of two holiday properties lovingly converted from the original chapel, The Organ Loft is tucked away to one side of a quiet country lane as it winds its way out of the village of St Breward on the western side of Bodmin Moor.

The Old Inn pub and restaurant, dating back to the 11th century, and the neighbouring parish church are about 10 minutes on foot. There is also a children's playground in the village and riding stables just over a mile away. Village stores can be found in the neighbouring villages of Blisland, St Tudy and St Mabyn.

For a wider selection of amenities, the towns of Wadebridge, Camelford and Bodmin are a 20 minute drive respectively and have a good selection of local shops and a sports centre with swimming pool.

The spectacular coastline and beaches at Trebarwith, Tintagel, Port Isaac and Polzeath are each about 10 miles, there are golf courses nearby, and the area abounds with rural footpaths; the Camel Trail can be joined at Wenford Bridge only two miles away.

Lots on offer for eating so plenty of choice. Service good. Portions too large for us - bit Desperate Dan, so lots wasted. Food good quality, but frozen mixed veg which let one meal down. Overall would recommend as plenty of space, good service and tasty food for all family.

August 2023

Had lunch here on off chance and went back again. Food was exceptional as well as extremely large portions though maybe a bit too much!

September 2021

Food was excellent - apart from serving us Hollandaise sauce instead of custard on the desert. We did laugh about it after and of course were not charged for it - however, they could have offered us a drink to compensate for their mistake. The waitresses were very polite.

August 2021

The sunday carvery was excellent.lots of choice and plentiful.Make sure you book!

July 2021

We always visit this inn every year when in the area. This was only the 2nd visit to a pub in the evening since March and we thought it was very well organised, hopefully we will be back next May without the plastic screens.

Tregardock Beach
(6 miles)

Best known as a surf beach, Tregardock Beach is only accessible by footpath, which offers beautiful views of the water and Port Isaac as you head down.  It is quite a stroll and the terrain is bumpy, so it’s not an ideal beach to visit with children.  The path can also get quite muddy, so keep an eye on the weather.  There’s a seasonal ban on dogs from Easter to September, and there aren’t any facilities in the immediate vicinity of the beach.  When the tide goes out, several small beaches become one long stretch of sand, and there’s a waterfall cascading down the cliffs at the back of the beach as well as caves to explore, so it really is a little paradise hidden in the landscape.  Because it’s not easy to access, it’s usually quiet at this beach, but parking along the roadside near the farm at Treligga is very limited, so it’s a good idea to head over as early as possible and make sure you don’t get cut off at high tide.

Port Gaverne
(7 miles)

(3)

A sheltered beach on the north Cornwall coast, Port Gaverne Beach is in a narrow cove just east of Port Isaac.  It’s comprised of sand and shingle with lots of rock pools to explore at low tide.  In the summer months it can get quite busy given the popularity of the location and its suitability for families.  Surrounding walks along the cliff path are delightful and at high tide the beach is favoured by divers.  There’s also a slipway and it’s sometimes used to launch boats because of the easy access from the road.  Thanks to it proximity to Port Isaac half a mile away facilities and restaurants are nearby, and the beach welcomes dogs all year round.  You can also park in the village although there is limited road parking by the beach itself.

beautiful and great fish and chips !

Excellent place to run the dog at sunset. Good walk on teh headland too. Could park right next to the beach.

Port Isaac Beach
(7 miles)

(2)

Since the arrival of Doc Martin on the small screen, Port Isaac has soared in popularity, and the pretty little village with the historic harbour, which also serves as the beach, has become instantly recognisable.  Still an active fishing village with crab pots scattered about, the sand stretches between twin piers at low tide and has a small stream and lots of rock pools to explore, so it’s ideal for children.  Dogs are allowed on the beach all year round, and as it’s at the centre of the village there’s easy access to shops and all facilities including public toilets.  The car park for the town is a 10-minute walk away, and while there are a couple of parking spaces on the beach itself, just make sure you park above the high water mark, or keep an eagle eye on the tide!

Lovely setting worth a look, dog friendly.

July 2022

Worth a visit, about half a mile walk from the car park, the return journey is quite steep but there is a shuttle taxi for those less able to manage the walk. Beautiful little harbour beach and of course doc Martin’s surgery. We ate in the hotel beer garden, food and drink was nice and reasonable priced.

Trebarwith Strand
(7 miles)

(6)

Two miles from Tintagel, Trebarwith Strand Beach on the north Coast of Cornwall is easily accessible and is owned by the National Trust.  A long stretch of sand, it’s backed by flat rocks and steep cliffs, but check the tides before you visit because people often get cut off in the summer months.  Once there, there are caves to explore and rock pools containing a wealth of sea life.  It’s been the setting for a number of films in its time, but these days it’s all about swimming (when lifeguards are on duty between May and September) and exploring.  Dogs are allowed on the beach all year round, and there are two car parks – the main one is a bit of a walk away, and a smaller one is closer to the beach.  There’s also a handful of roadside parking spaces.

Great beach, you will need to check the tide times though The Port William is a good pub overlooking the beach with great views, there is also a small cafe

September 2023

Beautiful rocky cove at the where you arrive. You have to come close to low tide to explore beyond.

April 2023

This is a fabulous beach with a nice cafe, a pub and shop and toilet facilities. You need a book of the tide times so that you can make the most of your visit here.

August 2022

Our favourite beach if you can work round the tide times!

August 2022

Beautiful clean beach, pleased that it is a dog friendly one.

July 2022

Another great place to run the dog when the tide is out. Took excellent photos here at sunset. Coast path walk from here to Tintagel is relatively easy going with great views.

September 2019

Port Quin
(9 miles)

(1)

A rocky beach in a narrow, sheltered cove, Port Quin Beach is close to Port Isaac, and is only accessible at low tide.  Its rugged landscape is beautiful to see, but its location means that it’s largely popular with seasoned walkers and those looking to go snorkeling and kayaking.  Unspoiled and peaceful, it reveals a treasure trove of rock pools when the tide is out, and the nearby village is largely deserted, having once had thriving fishing and mining industries.  Today both the cove and the village are owned by the National Trust and there is a car park courtesy of them in Port Quin.  Dogs are banned between Easter and October, and there aren’t any facilities nearby – it’s all about enjoying the peace and quiet.

Could park nearby and enjoyed a cream tea from the 'Salt Pig' van in the carpark. Paddled here and ran the dog one evening, and walked a bit more of the coast path.

November 2023

We love St Breward. Thank you for offering to share this wonderful cottage. This was our second visit in 2023, staying in Providence House in June. It has been wonderful to experience the different seasons, The Old Inn Sunday carvery was very generous portions and a family atmosphere. The St Tudy Inn was a treat for a special occasion. Malsters Arms at Chapel Cottage is amazing.

September 2023

We loved the location of being on the moor, and was very easy to get to where we wanted to go, either on the south or north coast. Many happy hours spent at the dining table as a family either eating or playing games. Found the lounge really cosy and a nice relaxing space after a day of walking or cycling. Internet connection was great considering the location. Lots of character and would return. Helpfulness of Tim the owner was greatly appreciated.

August 2023

Thank you for a great week in Cornwall. Weather hasn't been amazing but we've managed to see and do lots. The Old Inn is a great place for a meal.

April 2023

Thank you for a lovely stay in your home, full of character and all of the extras you would hope for. Special thanks to Tim and Rebecca for helping out at the beginning of the holiday which was fantastic service and allowed us to really have an amazing holiday (despite the constant rain!). Hope to visit again and wishing you well.

September 2022

Thank you for another lovely week at The Organ Loft. We’ve had plenty of dog walks (come rain or shine) over the moor and along the beaches and we’ve had a lovely relaxing week.

September 2022

We had a wonderful holiday in this beautiful cottage. We enjoyed our visit to Cornwall very much!

September 2022

We have a wonderful time in this lovely cottage. Luckily we have more sunny than rainy days so we could explore Cornwall at it’s best. We love the little roads where it is sometimes difficult to drive. We visited lovely places such as Looe, Port Isaac, Truro, St Ives and Polperro. We had good pub meals at the local village Old Inn but for a special meal we would recommend The Tudy Inn in St Study. Thank you very much for our great holidays in Cornwall.

September 2022

This is our third consecutive visit to the cottage. Both the village and the cottage are lovely. We have seen lots of rain this week but it has not spoilt our holiday.

September 2022

We very much enjoyed our stay at The Orgon Loft (2 adults, 1 child and 1 small dog). It was a lovely characterful holiday home in a nice local village. Everything was labelled very clearly with decent instructions on what to do with things like rubbish, and sheets and towels upon leaving. Handy cards with the wifi password were also provided. The space was ideal for us and felt bigger than the pictures portrayed as you can appreciate the full height of the ceiling from the kitchen and living room areas. The Window in the kitchen area let in a lot of light although is quite high up and you can't see out of it when sitting at the dining table. This all made sense when we saw the Cows looking in most evenings. It was a lovely treat to see the Cows and you get a great view from the living room area. The bedrooms were comfortable, the kitchen very well equipped and the living room area a nice place to relax and enjoy a bit of quiet reading or watching some TV (a nice Samsung smart TV is provided). The bathroom was fine with a bath tub and electric shower over the bath. The bath water came from an immersion heater. The local pub is really nice with great food, although best to book if you want a table inside. The shop is next to the pub. The property and village were nice and quiet and a great location to visit the local attractions. We visited Padstow, Tintagel, Port Isaac, Bodmin, Wadebridge, Harlyn Beach, Polzeath beach - all within 30 - 40 minutes drive. Harlyn beach was by far our favourite beach with loads of parking (£8's for 10 hours, cash or App, no card). Things to note are: - The driveway can just about squeeze 2 cars on if the first one pulls all the way up towards the front door, but beware of being able to get out either side. For one car there was plenty of space and we had no issues parking our Lexus NX. - The property is one of two so there could be neighbours during your stay and make sure to park on your side. - You enter the property on the middle level where the kitchen and bathroom are located and the bedrooms are down the spiral staircase, with the living room up the stair case. - The spiral wooden staircase is a nice feature but people with mobility issues might struggle - There is no green area immediately around the property if your dog prefers grass to do their business on, and the patio out front is not enclosed. This was not a problem for us and we simply took our dog for a little walk up the village to find some grass. - The pub is uphill through the village and is at least 15 minute walk - people with mobility issues might struggle

August 2022

We loved the property. It was beautifully presented, light, airy and quirky. Suited us well!

August 2022

Lovely property, would highly recommend

August 2022

We’ve loved our time here at The Organ Lift. Especially loved the cows peering through the top kitchen window at us. We’ve been to Padstow, Port Isaac, Tintagel, Wadebridge and Harlyn Bay enjoying the beach. We’ve eaten at The Old Inn several times and it was always very good although huge portions we struggled to finish. Would recommend and would come back.

August 2022

Our first time in Cornwall what a wonderful experience. It has been such a busy week and the weather has been perfect. The Organ Loft has been a little haven to stay; comfortable, clean and relaxing. Thank you for making our week in Cornwall fantastic.

August 2022

The Organ Loft has been a home from home! Have a lovely week, everything we needed was provided. Would highly recommend the local pub/restaurant for food although best to book. Cornwall never disappoints and plenty to do.

July 2022

Thank-you had a lovely time

July 2022

Enjoyed my stay here visiting The Barge in Bude, Eden Project, Steam Railway in Bodmin, St Ives, Rick Steins in Padstow recommend highly, it has been a great stay. Also visited Bodmin Jail pleased to say I got out as well. Favourite place to visit was Polperro. The Organ Loft has been home for a week, a great base clean and comfortable. Have loved location here.

June 2022

The accommodation was unique, well designed and thought through with all the essential facilities. I would also consider a gate in the side alley between the adjoining apartment to stop dogs wandering into each other’s accommodation!

June 2022

Thank you for your wonderful holiday home and sharing it with us. We found everything we wanted and more. We felt very comfortable in your home and look forward to visiting it again in the future. Our favourite places are The Mote restaurant in Port Isaac, Wave Riders Surf School at Polzeath and the best crab sandwich at fresh from the seas also in Port Isaac. St Agnes worth a visit, stunning.

April 2022

Thank you so much for a lovely holiday. The house is lovely as is the village. Despite us living in Cornwall we had never been to Bude, a really nice holiday day out, plenty to see and do, we had a lovely lunch on “The Barge” in the canal, really recommend. We would love to come back.

June 2021

We had an amazing stay at this property! It was perfect - had everything we needed and more, it was very clean & comfortable and perfect distance to lots of local amenities & attractions. Would definitely 100% recommend this place to stay to friends and family
