My day out: Fowey

Fowey is a very popular destination with our guests and we have quite a few properties in the area, so having never visited before, I thought it would be a good idea to have a look around to see what the appeal was.

Due to the high level of interest, I was expecting good things from Fowey – and it didn’t disappointed. Although the rain put a slight downer on the day (I look forward to visiting again on a sunny summers day), I was still pleasantly surprised by what Fowey had to offer. It’s a charming harbour town with plenty of wonderful places to eat and little shops to browse.

I didn’t realise quite how large the Fowey area is. There’s plenty of things to do and see, including a look around St Catherine’s Castle – which I didn’t even know was there.

Fowey is a day out to be enjoyed by many. The town is bursting with a variety of restaurants, cafes and independent shops to look around. There’s so much to look at, I’d make sure that children are bribed with an ice cream so they don’t get too bored going in and out of the different places.

The town, located on the River Fowey, also hosts a popular Christmas Market later on in the year, and the Fowey Regatta week in the summer (perfect for keen sailers).

Top tip for visiting Fowey:

  • Parking can be an issue in Fowey although there is a large cark park at the top which is easily accessible. The walk down is fine but the walk back up is very steep.
