Best activities to do in west Cornwall for kids

As comfortable and welcoming as your Cornish cottage is, it won’t be long before you and the kids are itching to get outside and explore all the delights Cornwall has to offer. With Cornwall being such a popular county for visitors, there’s certainly no shortage of activities to keep your little ones entertained. Here are some of the best you’ll find in west Cornwall.

The Seal Sanctuary

Seals are one of the most common visitors to our Cornish shoreline. Harbours seem to be the most popular hangouts where friendly fisherman can normally be persuaded to share a fish or two. Occasionally some of these seals can get into trouble, which is where the fantastic work of The Seal Life Sanctuary comes in. Located in Gweek on the west coast of Cornwall, the seals are taken care of and then all being well released back to the wild.

Most seasons the rescue of more than 40 pups takes place. Feeding times take place regularly throughout the day, and watching the young pups race for the most delicious fish is hilarious viewing. The staff offer an insight into the lives of these beautiful creatures and audience participation is often called for, giving the youngsters a chance at helping feed the greedy pups.

Penguins, otters and other animals also reside here – make sure you visit them as well so they don’t feel left out. A great café is on site and you can take your well behaved dog along as well.

Flambards

A great family fun day out, Flambards theme park has an exciting selection of rides and attractions, as well as an indoor soft-play area. Open from the beginning of February through to Christmas, this is pretty much a year-round attraction, perfect for entertaining the kids whenever you decide to holiday in Cornwall. You can even upgrade your day ticket to a week, so you can go back multiple times throughout your holiday.

The park near Helston often runs seasonal events which coincide with children’s holidays, making it an even more exciting and sometimes even educational day out. We highly recommend a visit, it will be your ‘best day of the week’.

Paradise Park

Located in Hayle, the Paradise Park Wildlife Sanctuary and Jungle Barn Play offers so much to see and do for the whole family. With more than 130 species of birds and animals to look at, a huge indoor play centre, the most gorgeous gardens and a popular onsite cafe, the children will not get board here. Meet a Red Panda face-to-face, roll around in a ball pool and feed the penguins – there are hours of fun to be had.

Open all year round (apart from Christmas Day), make sure to check opening times as they might vary between seasons.
