Christmas events in Cornwall
We may not be London’s Hyde Park Winter Wonderland, but we still know how to throw a good event here in Cornwall. From our well-known festivals and markets, to the annual family attractions - we’ve got the Christmas festivities covered.
Fowey Christmas Market
The end of November sees around 10,000 visitors heading to Fowey for its annual Christmas Market. With traders offering handmade gifts and local produce, and the town’s boutique shops showcasing their finest displays, there’s plenty of time for shopping before Santa arrives! The occasion also marks the switch on of the Christmas lights in Fowey, and there’s lots of music throughout the weekend from town bands and carol singers.
If you don’t want to miss out on any of the fun then take a look at our selection of self catering cottages in Fowey.
Padstow Christmas Festival
In early December, some of the UK’s most prestigious chefs take to the stage at Padstow Christmas Festival. Providing cookery demonstrations and taking part in food forums, it’s a great chance to interact with some of your favourite local and national chefs all under one roof.
The festival also contains a Christmas market full of food & drink producers and arts & crafts stalls. Finally, the event wouldn’t be complete with Santa’s grotto and the spectacular fireworks display.
We’ve got a great selection of cottages in Padstow that means you can enjoy the festival right on your doorstep.
Located in Penzance, this six day art and community festival is based on the Cornish traditions of the past, with lantern and mask making workshops, live bands, carol services, arts and crafts fairs and late night shopping throughout the week.
The festival concludes with the main event on 21st December, Montol Eve, where the people of Penzance take part in many of the Cornish traditional customs of Midwinter and Christmas including Guise dancing. Many wear traditional masks, dress in disguise and wear mock formal costume. During the proceedings you can listen to traditional music, watch fire throwing and join in the carols.
If you want to experience this very traditional Cornish festival, then take a look at our selection of properties in the Penzance area to stay in over that week.
Christmas at The Eden Project
You’d be hard-pressed to find a more unique venue than the Eden Project to see Santa and his elves at Christmas. With festive plant displays in the Mediterranean Biome and the famous ice skating rink, you can make it a festive day out for all the family to enjoy.
If you want to beat the crowds, then why not stay nearby in the St Austell Bay area?
Christmas Day swims
The water may be ice cold, but if you want to make your Cornish Christmas one to remember, then why not join in the tradition of a Christmas Day dip. Many beaches around the region host the brave (or mad) swimmers, with some of the largest gatherings happening in Bude, Polzeath and Sennen.
