Cornwall’s Best Food Delivery Services

Lockdown has (sort of) lifted and we are now allowed to venture back into Cornwall’s vast wealth of pubs and restaurants. But most of us prefer to err on the side of caution when it comes to going shopping – even if we’ve stocked up on the now-mandatory face masks – or are unable to go into shops while COVID-19 remains a threat.

So how about using a food delivery service to plan your meals and order what you need before you head down to the South West? Cornwall has an abundant supply of meat from hand-reared native breeds, freshly caught fish from its coastline and organic dairy and fresh veg that arrives with the dew still glistening – all from brilliant enterprises who are all more than happy to deliver to your doorstep. Why settle for the same boring old supermarket chains when local producers can provide so much more flavour, choice and sustainable options? Most of them deliver nationwide so you’ll be able to enjoy the flavours of Cornwall long after you’ve returned home. And best of all, by choosing to buy local, you’ll be supporting small rural businesses during the pandemic.

There are so many to choose from, but here are our top local food and drink purveyors around abundant Kernow. Happy shopping!

Delivery boxes in Cornwall

Cornwall is awash with food delivery boxes that really deliver on all the fresh local produce you could need. First up is the Cornish Food Box Company. Working with more than 250 local producers and farmers, it’s a veritable online Cornish supermarket (but with the ethics you’d expect) and a great way to order your food shopping, without the high prices of some farm shops. Boxes range from fruit and veg to meat and fish to barbecue and picnic. The ‘Holiday box” is inspired: choose from ingredients for a Cornish breakfast to pasties for lunch.

For good, honest Cornish fare, try Real Food Box, which delivers the best of Cornish and British produce, as well as fantastic food from around the world. Established at Trevilley Farm, Newquay, everything is produced with quality in mind, so the farming ethos and methods are not too dissimilar to when the family first bought the farm over a century ago.

Independent grocery shop and cafe, Great Cornish Food, based next to Waitrose in Truro, is famous for its wide range of top-quality Cornish food and drink, personal service and beautifully designed premises. More than 90% of everything for sale is procured from Cornwall – and the rest is sourced just over the Tamar in Devon. It is providing home delivery services for an eclectic range of meat, fish and deli edibles.

Wallow & Root are based near Ashton on the side of Tregonning Hill between Helston and Penzance. Almost all of their veg is sourced within 10 miles of Wallow & Root HQ, providing the freshest Cornish produce with minimal food miles – good for you and good for the environment. It delivers to St Ives, Penzance, Helston, the Lizard, Falmouth, Truro and everywhere in between. Please contact Wallow & Root for the delivery days in your area here.

Eating meat has had a rough time of it over the last few years as the plant-based food movement has taken hold. But forget the cheap factory-farmed products that line most supermarket shelves. Free-range, non-intensively farmed and grass-fed animals produce high-quality, healthier meat and suppliers are plentiful in Cornwall.

Try the professional butchers who farm, Philip Warren. The Launceston business has been farming, butchering and running what is probably the oldest farm shop in Cornwall since 1880. To this day they still ‘dry age’ and mature their meat – all from native breeds – the traditional way on the bone.

Down at Heligan near St Austell, the Lobb brothers pride themselves on producing premium-quality Cornish beef and lamb, both of which are home-reared on their farms. Not only do they produce top-quality meat, they grow a variety of delicious vegetables too. All of this is available to buy from the Lobbs Farm Shop or online, along with a huge range of other local produce.

You can’t visit Cornwall and not try some of the delicious seafood. The harbour town of Newlyn in Cornwall’s far south-west is famed for its fishing and Stevenson Newlyn has been catching and selling fish there for more than a hundred years. Stevenson can get fresh fish from their boats delivered by first-class courier, direct to your door within 24 hours of catching it, all prepared and ready to cook. Order a large family box or small fish box at, or for the catch of the day and bespoke boxes, call the shop on 01736 330713.

Amid the outstandingly beautiful Trerethern Farm on the north coast of Cornwall lies Padstow Kitchen Garden: 4 acres of land nourished and nurtured by sixth-generation farmer and former Stein’s head chef Ross Geach. For a huge variety of vegetables that also find their way to some of Cornwall’s best restaurants, such as Prawn on the Lawn and Number 6, sign up to a regular size veg box for irregular orders, with optional extras. These are delivered on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays and delivery areas include Padstow, St Issey, Wadebridge, Rock, St Eval, St Merryn, Trevone, Constantine, Harlyn, St Columb Major and Minor, Newquay, Porth, Watergate and Mawgan Porth.

Milk is having a moment and traditional milk delivery services are making a comeback. Green Cow Dairy is a traditional family-run farm near Truro, and one of a few dairy farms producing, processing, bottling and delivering their own cows’ milk direct to customers in glass pint bottles. They also stock Tamar Valley apple juice and honey.

Mounts Bay Dairy, based in Penzance, delivers a huge range of dairy goods from milk, cream and butter to eggs, cheese and yogurt. They supply Cornish produce wherever possible, working closely with local producers. Ordering is simple, just call the 24-hour answer phone on 01736 741216, leave your message and your order will be with you the next morning.

They also create delicious picnic hampers – choose from a freshly prepared sandwich-and-crisp option to a luxury hamper for a special treat. Menus depend on what is available seasonally.
