Packing for a holiday in Cornwall with Shop Cornish

You’ve booked a self-catering holiday with Cornish Traditional Cottages, and you simply can’t wait to spend time in Cornwall. The Cornish landscape is a giant playground for adults and children alike, brimming with beaches, dramatic coastlines, festivals, heritage and moorland. The food and drink scene has really taken off in the last few years with newly furnished gastropubs and fine dining restaurants popping up all over the Duchy. Out of the pandemic has emerged a new wave of street food and pop-up feasting adding to the already bustling events calendar. If you haven’t booked any activities yet or want to know what’s on while you’re here, head over to the events guide at Visit Cornwall.

Before arriving in Cornwall, take a look around Shop Cornish and familiarise yourself with famous Cornish brands and Cornish gifts. If you see something you like but prefer to buy it in person, make a note of it then visit the store while you are here in Cornwall. To keep up to date with all the new products and promotions, sign up for the Shop Cornish newsletter.

Packing for a self-catering holiday in Cornwall can seem daunting as there’s so much to remember and there is a good chance there will be a family feud over the Jenga-style game of packing up the car, especially if you’ve got to leave room for surfboards and windbreaks! However, don’t fear as Shop Cornish is here to help lighten the load (quite literally). Between them all, our Cornish makers have everything you need for your stay, here’s a handy checklist of Cornish goods you can have directly to your door during your stay, leaving the squabbling firmly at home!

Food & Drink

Instead of heading to the supermarket when you’re here, order your food and drink to be delivered directly to your holiday home.  Try the Cornish way of life when it comes to meal planning; think fish BBQs at sunset, cream teas for pit stops and beach picnics. For the best Cornish fish sourced locally, we’d recommend the catch of the day fish boxes or fresh lobster for a treat. For long beach days, you’ll need plenty of food to keep the energy levels up for all the swimming, surfing and sandcastle building you’ll be doing. Keep morale high with pasties by post, cream teas by post and lots of other sweet treats. Action-packed days call for relaxing evenings; take your favourite Cornish Gin, pair it with a charcuterie platter and enjoy the place you’ll call home for the next week.

Health & Beauty

Leave the wash bag at home and try some Cornish beauty products, from soaps to shampoos, lip balms to sun creams. Our members make products that are inspired by the land and sea that surround them. They use natural or plant-based ingredients where possible and strive to be sustainable in everything they do, by choosing them you’ll be getting the best products without compromise.

Beach essentials for pets

If you’re planning on bringing your four-legged friend to Cornwall, they are going to love it too; walks on long stretches of sandy beaches, chasing sticks with the wind running through their ears, sea dipping in the gentle surf or exploring the picnic hamper when you’re not looking! Be a responsible dog owner and help to keep Cornwall clean with portable dog poop bags, a unique offering by one of our brands.

Events

Shop Cornish members also have their products on offer at some of Cornwall’s most prominent events such as the Fowey Christmas Market and the Cornwall Home & Garden Show. Be sure to visit these event websites so you can plan them in as part of your stay. You can then meet the people behind the products and take some of it away with you.

Shops

During your stay and days out in the Duchy’s town centres, if you see our brands, use the opportunity to stock up on fantastic Cornish gifts for family and friends – some of our members have their own stores but lots of them are featured in Tourist Information Centres so if you’re short for time, make sure you stop here.

They say all good things come to an end but they needn’t when it comes to the special memories that you’ve made while in Cornwall; take a piece of Cornwall with you for yourself as a memory of a great holiday, maybe a piece of Cornish jewellery or Cornish art.

When you’re back home, don’t forget us either, with so many brands and a huge selection of products on shopcornish.com we can help you find Cornish food and drink, Cornish art, homewares and much, much more for those special occasions, and gifts for loved ones or just a little treat to take you back to that special moment during your holiday in Cornwall.
