Rock Oyster Festival

Rock-Oyster-Festival

They call it “A Mid-summer Celebration of Food, Music & Art. From the celebration of the Oyster to the best local produce that Cornwall has to offer there will be plenty of food and drink to sample and buy to go.”

As a festival of food, music, art and oysters, it sometimes seems as though Rock Oyster Festival doesn’t quite know what it’s being, but nothing could be further from the truth. The festival knows precisely what it is: awesome. On the banks of the Camel Estuary between the legendary Padstow and the only slightly less well-known Wadebridge, and facing the frighteningly fashionable village of Rock, this midsummer festival brings, for one weekend only, a small scale and eccentric party vibe to a uniquely beautiful part of the country.

Festival or garden party? You tell us!

We quizzed our social media friends and followers for their Oyster Festival impressions or soundbites. In a nutshell, they have been distilled into the following:

“A proper festival, but without all the madness. Quite cool. Not too hectic. Very mellow family vibe. Really nice.”

Oysters in abundance, of course!

Now that I type that, it sounds like damning with faint praise, but in fact, it probably is the measure of the festival’s lack of “Yeehaa” and “Woohoo”, “Wicked cool” or “Mindblowing”. Sometimes we can just do without those people. Especially when we have kids around! Oh no, now I’ve made it sound boring. And that isn’t right. Check out this excerpt from Rock Oyster Festival’s Instagram. We particularly liked “You are only as strong as the drinks you mix, the tables you dance on and the friends you party with!”

However – music, food and drink, stuff for kids (circus skills, forest school, stories, comedy and owls) hot tubs, camping, more music, and oysters (other food is available). All sounds perfectly sane, yes?

Here’s a video that will perhaps make more sense of it all:

So, there will be circus acts like face painting or juggling trampolinists ensuring enough fantastic child-friendly entertainment to keep the whole family happy, and the organisers have worked hard to bring you a happening mixture of music to keep the grin on your face throughout.

2018’s line-up includes Caravana Sun, Dr Meaker, The Ashton Jones Project, Cousin Avi, White Feather Collective, Phat Bollard, The Toffees, Stiff Joints, De Fuego, Fabian Madison, The Countrymen, The Portraits, Coastal Belles, Gypfunk and Atlantic Bridge. That ought to do it.
