The sun is shining, the birds are singing and spring is well and truly springing in Cornwall. Covid restrictions have eased and attractions are open – it’s time to get some Easter fun organised. Here’s your guide to a host of egg-tastic highlights to keep the kids out of trouble while you make the most of the Easter holidays at your Cornish holiday cottage this year.

1. Go on a National Trust Easter egg hunt in Cornwall

Cornwall is awash with stunning National Trust properties, all with wonderful gardens to explore. From Saturday 9 April, take part in a nature-inspired easter egg hunt. Soak up spring, tune into the birds or reach like a rainbow to complete the trail and earn a chocolate egg. You don’t need to book your Easter trails and you no longer need to pre-book to visit, although some smaller places may still require booking ahead. 2. Seek, find and play at Eden, St Austell, east Cornwall

The world’s largest greenhouse is a fab day out for everyone. Collect your Easter activity pack, loaded with adventures for the whole family to enjoy and get stuck into games designed to help you explore Eden’s great outdoors (and indoors) and witness all the beautiful signs of spring.

3. Have a fun day out at Flambards, Helston, south Cornwall 

Flambards is the perfect destination for families looking for a fun day out. From Saturday 2 to Sunday 24 April, meet Ferdi the Fox and take part in the Big Easter Egg Hunt on Sunday 17 April. Armed with a quiz trail, hatch a plan and follow Ferdi’s hidden clues to track down the answers and claim your chocolatey prize. For curious minds, there will be performances from the Billy Wizz Magic Show and the Creepy Crawly Show. Firm Flambards favourites will be back in action including the Hornet Rollercoaster, SkyRaker, Thunderbolt and the Colorado River log flume.

4. Discover Nature’s Superheroes at the Lost Gardens of Heligan, St Austell, east Cornwall

Bug lovers will adore discovering nature’s superheroes and the detailed and daily climate-affecting missions they embark on to save the planet at Heligan. Little ones can choose a superhero mask and follow the quiz trail mission map across the stunning estate, learning more about nature’s superheroes’ lives and how they affect ours. While you’re there, wander the network of magical gardens, woodland walks and farmland, explore the jungle, have a go on the East Lawn Adventure Play Area and visit the friendly collection of heritage and rare farm animals, including some very cute, show-stealing piglets!

5. Hunt for dragon’s eggs at Enys Gardens, Penryn, east Cornwall

Visit the historic gardens of Enys and learn more about the myths and legends of Cornish dragons – and their eggs! Collect your map when you arrive, and follow the trail to identify these beautiful magical eggs, each characteristic of a mineral found in Cornwall. The golden egg has a runic inscription that you can decipher with the code on your map. Completed trails will win a chocolate egg! Then go and check out the bluebells or relax with a cuppa at the Garden Cafe.

6. Learn about Detritus of the Deep at the National Maritime Museum, Falmouth, south-east Cornwall

This Easter, the National Maritime Museum is taking care of our natural world. Meet Detritus of the Deep and the Washed-up Mermaid, create recycled masks in Make & Take and follow the Museum Trail where you can learn about what you can do for nature. When you’re done, explore 15 galleries over five floors, visit the Monsters of the Deep exhibition, jump aboard boats, climb the 100-foot Lookout Tower, meet boat builders in the Boatbuilding Workshop, go underwater in the Tidal Zone, uncover ocean adventures and survival stories and sail miniature boats on the Waterfront Boat Pool.

7. Get arty with Tate Create, St Ives, south-west Cornwall 

Join in a special Tate Create workshop, at Tate St Ives’s Foyle Studio. Falmouth School of Art students have designed an interactive space, inspired by the themes in Thao Nguyen Phan’s exhibition, for families to drop in and explore.

8. Watch Hetty Feather or The Kiss that Missed at the Minack, St Buryan, south Cornwall

Roll up, roll up! Head to the Minack Theatre for a circus of dreams with little red-head Hetty Feather, a foundling who encounters a glamorous, flame-haired circus performer on her journey to find her real mother. Younger kids will enjoy The Kiss that Missed, about a little prince’s quest to find his goodnight kiss. It’s escaped into the forest where it has no business to be, so a brave and fearless knight is sent on a mission to bring it back… but is he brave and fearless enough?

9. Learn to cook at Rick Stein’s, Padstow, north-west Cornwall 

Get them out of your hair and into the kitchen! Rick Stein’s children’s cookery courses are designed to inspire and engage young chefs into the world of cookery. This Easter, they’ll learn to make crab tacos, monkfish with new potatoes and watercress, and elderflower and strawberry fool with Cornish fairings. Yum. The half-day course is on Thursday 21 April and is best for kids aged eight to 12.

10. Meet Peter Rabbit at Lappa Valley, Newquay, south-west Cornwall

Say hello to Peter Rabbit at Lappa Valley on Sunday 17 and Monday 18 April. Enjoy all the magic of Lappa while you visit everyone’s favourite naughty bunny.
