South Cornwall’s best rock pooling beaches for kids

Not all children are kept amused by building sandcastles and going for a paddle in our Cornish seas. Some prefer to be investigating the huge variety of sea creatures which can be found in rock pools throughout Cornwall. Here are are favourite rock pooling beaches in south Cornwall that kids will love exploring.

Gyllyngvase

An arc of golden sand makes this Falmouth beach a favourite for day trips with children, with good beach facilities including the famous Gylly Beach Café, and plenty of rock-pools to explore on the outcrop at the south end of the beach. Crabbing with a net and bucket is easy here, and shallower pools host shrimps and winkles. You might even see the odd lobster.

Helford Passage

Helford Passage, on the northern side of the beautiful Helford River, is on the east of the Lizard Peninsula. The small strip of shingle beach is not that inspiring, but the waters of the estuary are, and the rock pools here are reputed to be some of the most bio-diverse in the county. Just below the Ferryboat Inn is the place to look.

We have a great selection of Cornish cottages in south Cornwall for families to enjoy an adventurous holiday, so the kids can explore all the rock pools to their heart’s content.
