Best dog-friendly beaches in west Cornwall

Cornwall has proven to be a winner year after year for being a dog-friendly holiday destination. The quality accommodation, incredible scenery, a variety of walks and many beaches is what makes Cornwall so perfect for dog owners. Here are some of the best dog-friendly beaches in west Cornwall.

Gwenver

Right down in the far west of Cornwall, less than a mile from Sennen Cove, you’ll find Gwenver beach. This secluded sun-trap is a well-kept secret (until now). There’s only a few parking spaces and no other facilities, but you stand a good chance of having the beach to yourselves, particularly in winter. You’ll mostly find surfers and walkers wanting to share this picturesque spot that feels like you’re at the end of the world.

Porthkidney Beach

Found at the mouth of the Hayle Estuary, just two miles from the harbour town of St Ives, is the sandy Porthkidney Beach. The beach is about a mile long at low tide, is backed by beautiful sand dunes and has crystal clear water for swimming. This beach is dog-friendly all year round.

Gwithian

Popular with many surfers due to the constant quality waves, Gwithian is also the perfect spot for seal watching, rock pooling and cave exploration. There is a seasonal dog band in place here between 1 May and 30 September, but dogs are welcome on the beach throughout the rest of the year.

Portheras Cove

Located on the northern edge of west Cornwall is the sheltered sandy Portheras Cove, where dogs are welcome on the beach all year round.

Prussia Cove

Known for being one of Cornwall’s most secluded and romantic spots, Prussia Cove can be found on the Mount’s Bay coast around three miles from Marazion, and is a dog-friendly beach all year round.
