Dog walks in west Cornwall

West Cornwall is known for being the rugged tip of Great Britain, full of many hidden treasures. Here are some of the best dog walks in west Cornwall to explore and discover when holidaying in Cornwall with your four-legged friend.

Marazion to Perranuthnoe

This seafront walk is just over three miles long, and encompasses very varied terrains of sand dunes, lanes and foopaths. This is a mainly level walk apart from one slight uphill section – following the coast path around the edge of Mount’s Bay, and there’s chance for dogs to have a good run around on Marazion Beach during the winter months. If you don’t feel like walking the return route then there are regular busses that will take you from Perranuthoe back to Marazion.

Long Rock Beach

Located between Marazion and Penzance is the all year round dog-friendly Long Rock Beach. High tide tends to swamp this beach, so it’s usually only good to run around with your dog at low tide, but there is a footpath which runs parallel to the railway line which is part of the South West Coast Path. The walk into Penzance is around a mile long and there is fantastic views of St Michael’s Mount.

Porthtowan Beach

This is one of those beaches that has it all – rolling surf, golden sands, large dunes, dramatic cliffs, and to top it all off, it’s located within a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, boasting a coveted Blue Flag award.

After running wild on the beach at low tide, you can walk with your dog to the neighbouring and equally stunning beach at Chapel Porth, then return to Porthtowan via the South West Coast Path which skirts over the cliffs with spectacular views out to sea. Enjoy a relaxed end to walkies seated in the Blue Bar, a dog-friendly beachside café where you can grab a drink and watch the sun go down. Do note that there is a seasonal dog ban on this beach from Easter and 1 October.
