My day out: Mawgan Porth

We have a great selection of Cornish cottages in Mawgan Porth and Porth, so I thought our guests would benefit from knowing a little more about this beautiful part of the north Cornish coast.

On my way to Mawgan Porth to take my dog Lucy for a walk on the beach, I stopped off to see some local businesses about offering exclusive deals and discounts for our guests, including St Eval Candle Company, Kernow Chocolate and Disco Beads. It was great to meet the business owners, and see how proud and enthusiastic they were about their terrific products.

After a quick run around at Mawgan Porth, we then moved onto Porth Beach (which took a little longer than usual due to some essential roadworks on the coast road between the two locations and involved a lengthy detour). Having been born in Porth, I wanted to head back there out of season to see what had changed as I hadn’t visited for a few years. The beach was virtually deserted – well, it was January – so my little westie could really roam around and let off some steam.

Walking enthusiasts and particularly those with dogs will love Mawgan Porth as this beach is dog-friendly all year round, and Porth Beach and its glorious headland is dog-friendly out of season. Both beaches benefit from a variety of locally owned shops, cafes and pubs closely as well as clean, well maintained toilets and a good amount of parking.

My top tips for visiting Mawgan Porth:

• Take change for the car park and toilets, cash for a well-deserved cuppa, camera and all your normal doggy walking essentials.
• The local community and council work very hard to keep these beaches clean, so taking your litter home and cleaning up after your dog when you leave is always appreciated.
