My day out in Polperro

Quirky-Polperro

Here at Cornish Traditional Cottages we have two properties in Polperro and having never been there before I thought I’d go down myself and take a look around the town so I was more familiar with the location and to just have a general nosey around the town.

I knew that Polperro was a small harbour town but I didn’t know overly what to expect before going.

Polperro need to know

I liked the quirkiness of Polperro. It is very much a small harbourside town with small little lanes taking you to different places. This rocky outcrop cum fishing village has retained much of its historic Cornish charm and that’s largely its appeal.

There are a lot of small little shops and lots of places to eat, so for a day visit on the ferry you’ll be well served for souvenirs, knick knacks and choice of independent eateries. A visit won’t necessarily fill a day unless you’re in slow travel mode and just keen to soak up your surroundings. Although if you’re in the area for a while, perhaps book a fishing trip or pleasure cruise that leave the harbour most days in peak season.

We didn’t go prepared, but I’d definitely recommend packing your swimmers and making use of the tidal sea pool. For those who love swimming but aren’t comfortable with the unknown of tides, in the tidal pool you get the best of both worlds within the confines of a purpose built pool.

There are a lot of independent shops that I would recommend visiting they all offer slightly different items and are all very welcoming. We ate at the The Plantation Restaurant & Tea Rooms as it had a pretty looking, umbrella covered outdoor area. They were also very welcoming to our cocker spaniels offering drinks and treats for them both. And we had some very nice meals at a good price.

Dog friendly day out in Polperro

Couples and solo travellers would enjoy this day out. It’s a place where you can take your time. Whereas there isn’t much beyond Polperro beach to entertain children. Those seeking a dog friendly day out in Cornwall will enjoy Polperro. The majority of shops seemed very welcoming towards pets and the beach at the end of town suits for a run around although they must be kept on the lead. The town is also traffic free.

Visiting Polperro – practical information

Parking is roughly a 5 minute walk away from the main town itself but it isn’t a tough walk it is mainly even the whole way although slightly up hill on the way back. There is a small bus like tram that is on offer for guests that would prefer not to walk. It operates for most of the day to take visitors to and from the car park.
