My day out: Colliford Lake

It was a dry but very cold day in April, and I wanted to get outdoors with the kids and have some fresh air. We chose the moors, so we put on our wellies, coats, hats and scarves and off we went.

I always love how quiet Bodmin Moor is, even on a high season weekend in August you could be on the moors and still enjoy a little bit of peace. The only people we came across were some local dog walkers.

We were hoping The Tavern would be open so we could pop in and have a hot chocolate to warm up, so it was a little disappointing that it was closed. Luckily we had packed a picnic, but we ate this in the car to get out of the cold.

Everyone can enjoy a walk around Colliford Lake. Not only is it a free activity, but there’s also lots of beautiful scenery to admire.

Top tips for visiting Colliford Lake:

  • If you’re hoping for hot food, make sure to check opening times of The Tavern. Alternatively a picnic will always go down a treat.
  • Don’t be put off by the weather – Cornwall is amazing, even on a rainy day.
