My day out: Camel Creek

With a 5 year old to entertain, I’m always on the hunt for family friendly attractions in Cornwall that offer more than an hour’s worth of activities, multiple things to do and are unlikely to blow a family budget.

With my 5 year old in tow, one of our most recent days out was to Camel Creek Adventure Park in Tredinnick near Wadebridge. Not too far for us to travel in the car and with the promise of a fun packed day with chance to also see some animals. Off we went…

Animal magic

Obviously driven by my son’s joy and excitement, we loved the reptiles and the meerkats amongst the animals. Although his favourite place was Dragon’s Kingdom, which is a large soft play area themed around dragons and knights with tunnels and mazes.

There are rides galore here too. His favourite ride was the Pony Express, where you get to ride ponies on a track. On a dry hot day they have a Water Wars area which you can buy and fill up water balloons and catapult them at your friends and family. We’ll be back with the rest of our crew to give that one a go!

More water fun is on offer at the Downpour Derby is a water attraction that has a bucket on the top and once the bucket is full of water it tips out onto you. As an adult I loved the horses, they have many and we were lucky to also meet a young foal.

Indoor and outdoor

It was raining on the day we visited, so some rides were closed but there were plenty of other things to do indoors and my son, and me, were more than occupied. Anyone with small children under the age of 12 is likely to have fun day out here.

They also do special character days (Paw Patrol, Peppa Pig, etc) and Swampy, the mascot for the park, makes a great effort to visit the children around the park.

The park has many eateries, ice cream and snack shops and I would like to try out the Dragons Kingdom Handmade Burger Company for lunch next time. But I was happy to realise that you can take your own picnic into the park as this can really keep costs down if you are on a budget.

Top tips for visiting Camel Creek Adventure Park:

•Take swimwear for the water area.
•Take coins for the water balloon machine or take your own balloons.
•Take a picnic if you are on a budget.
•The park does a drink refill system where you buy a cup for your coffee/soft drink/slushy and it’s cheap to refill after buying one – you also get to take the cups home.
•Take swimwear or change of clothes and towels on a hot day.
•If you are thinking of going more than once get an annual membership.
•Be prepared that you have to pass through the gift shop on the way out!
