August 2021
GREAT VENUE ,LOVELY STAFF AND SUPERB FOOD, HADNT BOOKED,BUT FITTED US IN, HIGHLY RECOMMEND A VISIT EARLY DURING YOUR STAY AS OURS WAS TOWARDS THE END AND WOULD HAVE GONE ON MORE THAN ONE OCCASION .
August 2021
Lovely meal. Felt very comfortable even with the Covid restrictions and social distancing. Food and service were excellent.
August 2020
Unfortunately with the restrictions they have put into place, eating out of polystyrene boxes is unacceptable. I would say the way they are operating is unacceptable. You eat there once and don’t go back. You are made to feel like a leper, definitely unclean. This is not the case in other pubs and restaurants nearby.
August 2020
We enjoyed a fabulous meal at the Plough during our stay in Trenant Park Cottages. The menu is good and they offer a good range of specials. The portions are hearty, and the food excellent quality. They are also dog friendly. I would highly recommend.
October 2019
Excellent . Need to book in advance particularly at weekends
September 2019
We deemed this the best meal we had on our recent stay near Looe. Excellent service and delicious hearty food. Comprehensive menu and also a specials board. Can highly recommend the lamb shank and fish pie!

Excellent evening meal with great choice of items. The food was served promptly and by friendly staff. Nice busy atmosphere
July 2023
A popular comfortable inn serving a great selection of food. Very friendly and efficient staff.
July 2023
The Jubilee In was an oasis away from the over commercialised Looe and Polperro. WE had an amazing Sunday lunch with a huge selection of vegetables. The Hake that we had later in the week could have been served in the best restaurants anywhere and lovely friendly staff

Carnglaze Caverns
(Less than a mile)
(6)
A family-run business, this underground experience is open all year round for self-guided tours. Set in Quarry Wood, the 6.5-acre site encompassing ancient woodland and beautiful walks, is also home to three caverns and a spectacularly beautiful underground lake, hand created by slate miners. There’s a The Terrace Garden and Enchanted Dell for children, The Rum Store for underground concerts and events, and it’s licensed for weddings and civil partnerships. When you visit, remember The Caverns are at a constant 10°C, so jumpers are a good idea and flip flops are recommended.

We visited on a wet day in February. Truly enjoyed both the caverns and the woodland walk. Loved the little signs on the walk.
February 2022
Have visited this attraction in the past and wished to revisit. Unfortunately we were unable to to book on the same day as visit which prevented us from going, although at this time of year(late September) I doubt it was busy.
September 2021
Totally blown away. The ladies where so knowledgeable and very helpful. A marvellous place to visit x
July 2021
A great visit, staff very approachable and knowledgeable about the history and working of the mine. Woodland walks were an added adventure with fairies and dragons to spot on the way round and keep the kids interested.
August 2020
Easy parking with available toilets. Not too sure about disabled access, though,ok if you can actually walk but not too good if in a wheelchair from what i see. It is an interesting place though. Flash photography is not allowed as there are bats in the caves. The inside is actually quite pleasant and can be wet. Outside there are a a couple of interesting walks, mostly uphill,so be prepared. Its an interesting attraction that will be a couple of hours at least.
September 2019
We all enjoyed our visit here on a rainy day. It was good to see this mine.

August 2020

June 2019
Porfell Wildlife Park
(4 miles)
(2)
Cornwall’s biggest exotic animal sanctuary, Porfell Wildlife Park is a family attraction close to Looe, which has been running since 1989. It plays home to more than 250 animals from around the world, who have found their way to the sanctuary through neglect, injury, illegal importation or simply because they weren’t wanted. It’s a chance to get up close to wildlife, feed the animals, touch them and learn all about the natural world. There are woodland walks, a children’s farm, a café, a Maasai village, and you can meet or even adopt the animals that you see. Opening hours vary, so keep an eye on the website, and prices start at £9.50 for adults and £6.50 for children.
We visited Porfell Wildlife Park on our last day and it was idylic! Being able to buy reasonably priced, bags of food to feed some of the animals and birds was great. We liked the fact that these are not "display" animals but are rescued from parks and zoos that could no longer keep them. Everyone we spoke to there was friendly and helpful and all the animals looked well cared for.
June 2022
What a great place to visit, everyone really cared about what they were doing here. Highly recommend a visit to anyone

Hannafore Beach
(9 miles)
(9)
Half a mile west of Looe, stretching along the coast, Hannafore Beach is a sandy, shingle bay with a rocky reef and views of St George’s Island. At low tide it’s brimming with rock pools, making it fun and games for the whole family to enjoy, and it’s a wonderful sun trap in summer months thanks to its south east facing position. Because of its location over the river, the beach never really becomes too busy, but equally there aren’t any facilities nearby. It’s popular with dog walkers as it’s amongst the few dog-friendly beaches in the area, and having explored you can extend your excursion to a stroll along the promenade or a potter around the coast path to the wonderfully scenic Talland Bay. There is roadside parking along the sea front above the beach, but it can be difficult to find a space. Alternatively, there is a large car park in West Looe, around 10 minutes away on foot.
Splendid views and dog accessible
July 2022
The best place to unwind
August 2020
Great for rock pooling
August 2020

June 2017
Millendreath Beach
(9 miles)
(1)
Millendreath Beach is a south facing beach at the foot of a wooded valley, in a sheltered cove with soft sand and lots of rock pools to explore at low tide. It’s connected to other nearby beaches by the South West Coast Path. Dogs aren’t allowed on this beach at any time of the year, and there is a reasonably sized car park a few minutes walk away. The beach is popular with families on holiday in Cornwall, and most of the surrounding area is occupied by a holiday park, so there are lot of facilities open to the public.
Fantastic beach with wonderful water sports facilities available, loved the sea kayaks!
July 2022
Plaidy Beach
(9 miles)
(1)
A small and pleasant grey sand beach with rocks exposed at low tide, Plaidy Beach is simply a nice place to visit and take in the scenery. There aren’t any facilities, and there’s no parking nearby so it’s one to reach on foot. There’s a slipway to the beach, but you will have to access it by walking along the coast path, parking at Millendreath or Looe and it’s worth keeping in mind that it’s quite steep from both directions. Millendreath is closer and the walk should take around 20 minutes. Dogs are allowed on the beach all year round, so it’s a charming place to take them for a walk while you’re in the area.
Great to walk to at low tide on the beach or at high tide via the footpath. Great dog friendly beach.
August 2018
Looe Beach
(9 miles)
(20)
In East Looe, the beach sits directly in front of the old town, sheltered by the Banjo Pier and overlooked from the east by the hillside of Mount Ararat. A good family beach that has something for everyone, at low tide the sandy location is safe for swimming although it’s recommended you steer clear of the river mouth beyond the pier. Unfortunately dogs aren’t allowed on this beach at any time of the year, but Hannafore beach in West Looe is dog friendly. The beach backs on to a seafront walkway which runs its length all the way to Second Beach to the east, where it tends to be less busy and it’s good for snorkeling. As it’s in the centre of the town there are lots of facilities and cafes nearby, but in the summer it’s a very popular spot and parking can be tricky, with traffic prohibited during these months, so be prepared for a bit of a walk.
Some days quite busy but great facilities and loads of activities
August 2023
Great, despite the early season seaweed, the tractor cleared it very well.
April 2023
LOVE LOVE LOVE
July 2022
All of the beaches around Looe are worth visiting - and the coastal path is a must. Fuel for the hike? Not listed in the reviews is Sarah’s Pasties which has the best pasties (we ate a lot of pasties during the week!). They were also one of the few eateries in the area which could provide something for someone needing a gluten and dairy free diet. We were able to preorder pasties that met her dietary requirements.
February 2022
Wonderful beach
December 2021
Safe and sandy beach perfect for kids
August 2021
I enjoyed the beach as it is very flat, which is important at 70, and I even had a paddle. The beach was very clean.
July 2021
One of the best beaches I have visited. It is nice and level and I was even able to have a paddle. It was very clean.
July 2021
Great beach so close all amenities
July 2021
Such a lovely beach. A shame people didn’t socially distance or even attempt to do so.
August 2020
Spent a week at new year in this beautiful apartment. Everything you could possibly need was in there. Lovely comfy bed, spotless clean and the bonus of a sea view. Central for everything. Will definitely return.
January 2020
Wonderful clean beach
October 2019
Perfect for the children but beware of seagulls. We always take a beach tent so children can safely enjoy their food and ice cream!
June 2019
Lovely beach suitable for everyone
June 2019
A wonderful place to sit relax eat an ICECREAM or a pastie, if the seagulls will let you! Perfect beach x
August 2018
You cannot fail to love Looe beach, early morning, during the day or for and evening stroll. A super clean beach.
May 2018
Lovely sandy beach. No dogs allowed but there is a small cove at the far end which allows dogs to enjoy their holiday too with a dip in The English Channel.
May 2018
Looe beach and seafront is cleaned every day (in season?) and looks good. A joy to sit and watch the sea and people passing by.
April 2018
Really good! Good sand and sea. Activities for the kids too. Difficult to get to cos no parking nearby.
August 2017
Lovely beach and even when it was busy didn't feel overcrowded
August 2017
Talland Bay
(9 miles)
(16)
A small, quiet beach between Looe and Polperro, Talland Bay actually comprises two beaches, one of which has sand both at low and high tide and is good for swimming all the time, while the other is less sandy and is easiest to swim from at high tide. There is a ramp for launching boats from the main beach and there are lots of small coves and tidal pools to swim in as well, so it’s a delightful area to explore in the water. Parking is limited, but there is a small, free car park by the beach and paid parking at The Beach Café, all of which provide easy access to the sand. Thanks to the nearby café, visitors can also benefit from the accompanying facilities, on-site shop, and tuck into Roskillys Cornish Ice-Cream as well.
Sit in the graveyard on the bill and look down to Talland bay. Tranquillity so special. I never fail to go there when I am down. The church is beautiful so much history.
October 2023
Having spent many a happy childhood holiday here - 60 years ago, so wonderful to return. It is so beautiful and with addition of 2 Beach cafes - even better now.
June 2023
Beautiful little bay with a great cafe overlooking it. Dogs allowed on the beach Oct to end of May.....
October 2021
Although there was indeed sand in one of the bays it was largely covered with seaweed at the water's edge when we were there. All very natural.
October 2021
Lovely bay, shingle beach
September 2021
Not a great beach and a bit smelly.
August 2021
Unfortunately the seaweed on the beach made it very smelly and also lots of flies. Beautiful apart from that!
June 2021
Lovely walk from polperro along coast. Cafe in picturesque bay pretty with little huts to shelter. Only downside was the coffee not good at all.
May 2021
Beautiful bay. A little smelly from the seaweed but rock pools galore and quiet
October 2020
Very interesting beach with rock pools at low tide and fascinating multi-coloured rocks, great for photography.
October 2019
A lovely place to walk too on the way to Looe. Hard work back up the hill to polperro, bit it's worth it!
October 2018
The coastal walk from Polperro to Talland Bay is outstanding. As both are scenic, (and Talland Bay benefits from an excellent cafe and free toilets), it makes for an excellent morning or afternoon trip in good weather.
May 2018
Lovely beach, beautiful walk from Polperro. Dogs requested to be kept on leads (which I suppose is preferable to a ban!). Families seem to use this beach alot.
May 2018
An interesting beach at low tide and lovely views.
April 2018
Brilliant. Bit seaweedy. Wear beach shoes incase of weever fish stings.
August 2017
Great beach pet friendly beach with rock pools etc for the dogs to explore
June 2017
June 2023
Too much road noise
We are sorry to hear that. Although The Stable is near the road, it is set back and enjoys privacy amongst the dense hedges, trees and the river, so road noise is not mentioned often. We do hope that you enjoyed your stay otherwise.
- The Toad Hall Team
May 2023
First time staying in Cornwall with Toadhall and so pleased we chose this accommodation. Made to feel very welcome by Kath and Percy - who came to feed every morning. Well placed for North & South Cornwall. The stables in very well appointed has everything you need, plus unexpected extra's which is very much appreciated when travelling from overseas. Hope to visit again, thankyou.
Thank you so much for your feedback, Kath (and Percy Peacock) will be delighted to hear this!

August 2022
We absolutely loved our stay. The location is ideal for exploring Cornwall via car. The cottage was spotless on arrival and had everything we needed and more. We wouldn’t hesitate to return. The week went by far too quickly!
August 2022
It was a most enjoyable stay, and the owner has obviously made a great effort to ensure that everything one could possibly need was provided. It is situated very close to the A38 road between Liskeard and Bodmin, but even so this gave minimal disturbance. Percy the peacock is an added attraction, and we enjoyed his company very much. I hope he long continues to grace the property with his exotic presence.
June 2022
Fabulous cottage with wonderful garden and a great location. Kath is really friendly and helpful. Highly recommended.
September 2021
Lovely cottage with everything we could want. Lovely garden to enjoy, cannot fault

July 2020
We had a wonderful time - great accommodation and location.
February 2020
This is a really lovely, spacious, well equipped property. A great home from home. The weather was awful but the property made up for it !
February 2020
Sharper knives! Everything was great
September 2019
Genuinely the best property we have ever stayed in. So comfortable and well equipped.
September 2019
This is not about the property itself. After viewing a few holiday letting companies,i feel to enhance your business and others,is that you photo more of the rooms and the property itself ,rather than pictures of flowers, ornaments, laid out tables. I feel this is totally a waste of time, albeit it looks nice but as a guest, seeing all the rooms is more important. Its NOT a complaint but just an observation. Brilliant time though
August 2019
We had an excellent time. The stable had everything we needed and was very clean and comfortable. The garden was beautiful. Kath was an excellent host.
June 2019
A wonderful stay. A warm welcome from the owner who left a lemon cake for us to enjoy. A perfect location
January 2019

June 2018
We had a great time here. The cottage is very clean and tidy and the kitchen has all that you would need for a comfortable stay.
November 2017
The Stables was a real 'find' for us and perfect for our last trip of the year to the West Country. The location meant easy access to many local attractions and villages, and the autumnal nights meant more time spent inside the cosy and comfortable property. We were welcomed with home baked goodies and Kath was more than welcoming and helpful. We hope to return to The Stables at some point in the New Year.
October 2017
Kath was a wonderful host and we had a really super week off - many thanks.
August 2017
We had a wonderful time. The cottage was well equipped even down to cleaning and washing materials. Nice and cosy... comfortable and HIGHLY recommended.
May 2017
yes everything was excellent, the peacock in the garden was an unexpected surprise, and we arrived to a lovely lemon drizzle cake
October 2016
This was the 5th time we have stayed here. the location is great, just off the main road but you hardly hear the traffic as its in a dip surrounded by woodland., You have the added advantage of not going down miles of very narrow roads just to pop to the shop. All the main supermarkets with 30 min, Morrison's ten min away. The garden is beautiful, room for football and hide and seek. you can enjoy a quiet read in the small summer house by the river. House is well equipped with everything you need even down to dishwasher tablets. Its warm and airy in the summer and cosy when cooler. This cottage makes a excellent base but its a real pleasure to stay in for the day too, bright with plenty of space. Its always clean and well presented, you may even find a cake on the side and milk in the fridge when you arrive. The owner is amazing. One year the shower broke while we were there, we called her to say (there was a separate bath) we went out for a few hours and on return there was a new shower fitted and installed by 3pm the same day that's real service. In the visitors book almost everyone plans to go back and there are quite a few returning guests, like ourselves, so any advice would be book it quickly so you are not disappointed. See you next year cottage x
June 2016
This was 4th visit to this property. Love it

Will look forward to booking the Stables for my next holiday in the area.
June 2014

Great holiday cottage with a wonderful and helpful owner. So many good places to visit just a short drive away. Happy memories!
May 2014
Thank you for a most enjoyable stay. The cottage felt just like home. The welcome we received was wonderful. The lemon cake was lovely!
April 2014
Its the first time we have used toadhall and we will definitely be using you again .the best holiday cottage company we have used. Thankyou
April 2014
A very well equipped cottage with all modern appliances. Beautiful garden and a good location. We had a very relaxing week in this really cosy cottage. Central location with looe only a short drive away and easy access to the main road from liskeard to bodmin. The river at the bottom of the garden is as beautiful as any other view in Cornwall. The owners are very friendly and easily contactable if needed. We will definitely return again.
June 2023
Too much road noise
We are sorry to hear that. Although The Stable is near the road, it is set back and enjoys privacy amongst the dense hedges, trees and the river, so road noise is not mentioned often. We do hope that you enjoyed your stay otherwise.

May 2023
First time staying in Cornwall with Toadhall and so pleased we chose this accommodation.

September 2021
We had a wonderful week at the stables. Hope to return & would not hesitate to recommend to others.

Another wonderful week at The Stable. Lovely goodies from Kath who is always keen to help you find new places to explore. Many thanks again Kath for your attention to detail and for allowing us to stay in such a special place.
September 2021
We loved our visit - the cottage had everything we needed to make our stay enjoyable. We were sad to say goodbye to Percy the resident peacock. The owner was a lovely lady very friendly and extremely helpful.
July 2021
Absolutely amazing!!! Totally beyond what we expected. Perfect location. Kath was incredibly knowledgeable and nothing was too much for her to help us. The cottage was immaculate and had everything we needed. The resident peacock was adorable can't wait to come back again x

Yes, we had a great holiday, in spite of the weather!
May 2021
We loved it and will be booking again for next year. One of the highlights was hand-feeding Percy the peacock, he was beautiful and he is a fantastic addition to the holiday. The owner, Kath, is absolutely lovely and was really helpful with local knowledge and nothing was too much trouble. Highly recommended.
September 2020
Lovely cottage and gorgeous garden. Brilliant stay and perfect host. would highly recommend!
August 2020
very welcoming caretaker, Kath, who suggested lots of local delights to us
Wonderful stay over Christmas - House was perfect, everything we needed and a very warm welcome with home baked cake! Will definitely rebook again.

September 2014
I can highly recommend the Toad Hall Cottages website along with Treverbyn Vean Stables for a place to stay. Wonderful property well maintained by the owners and everything you would need in a wonderful location ideally suited for getting to the local places of interest. Will look forward to booking the Stables for my next holiday in the area.

Who ever the lady was that met myself and grandson in the restaurant was I found to be quite insulting in the way she spoke to and was not very accomadating at all.

July 2022
Lovely pub, staff super helpful, menu a bit limited, would like potatoes rather than chips, but found that everywhere we went. Definitely worth a visit as food was very good.
June 2022
Good menu offered in a a lovely old pub. The lunch we had was delicious and the staff were very friendly and attentive.

Magic Wood
(Less than a mile)

July 2017
Polmartin Riding

Great afternoon beginners riding for our children. Staff helpful and knowledgeable.
August 2020

April 2019

August 2020
Great fun had by our dog 'Moses'
August 2019

August 2018

June 2018

April 2018
Great beach. Good view of looe island. Loads of shells to collect. Lots of dog walkers tho!
August 2017
One of the many dog friendly beaches we visited lovely coastal walks to Talland Bay the nature reserve island is very interesting great refreshments available and not forgetting the free parking available all day which is very useful.
