Property Details

A traditional mid-terrace double fronted stone cottage originally starting life as a forge for the local fishermen and later becoming a chapel until the congregation outgrew it. Now rebuilt using the original stone and set on rising ground with views across village rooftops to the sea and coastline from the top floor windows which look out beyond the harbour wall. Entered directly from the lane, a couple of steps lead up to the front door which opens to the central hallway.

The ground floor accommodation comprises a well equipped kitchen with country pine fitted units and a breakfast bar with high stools, a dining/play room with a sofa bed for alternative sleeping arrangements and at the rear of the hall two steps continue up to a cloakroom W.C. with hand basin and a bedroom with sturdy 3ft pine bunk beds.

Upstairs there is a bathroom W.C. with hand basin and shower cubicle to supplement the bath, and two steps lead down to the front of the cottage where there are a pretty double bedroom with views of the outer harbour and sea over the rooftops and a delightful beamed sitting room with a gas woodburner effect stove, some natural exposed stonework and views encompassing the boats in the harbour and far out to sea.

There is a small walled courtyard at the rear of the cottage with a useful outside tap and the original niche in the wall dating back to the old chapel, and a parking permit for one car is provided for the harbour car park 250 yards away.  A flight of steps opposite the cottage descends to the large harbour still dominated by a thriving fishing industry.

There are a wide variety of shops, pubs and restaurants, many specialising in locally caught fish. The original bellows belonging to the old smithy are displayed in the Mevagissey Museum on the quayside and the old lifeboat station houses a small aquarium. There are boat trips and a ferry to Fowey that leave from the harbour, and Portmellon, half a mile, has a sand and shingle beach. There are lovely views along the South West Coast Path to Gorran Haven via Chapel Point and The Lost Gardens of Heligan are a short drive. The Eden Project is a 30 minute drive. Please note there is no room for the storage of bicycles inside or outside the property.

Please note: Bed linen is available at £5 per person per week payable on arrival. Towels are not available.  A weekly car park pass is inclusive.
