Set on the shore of beautiful Dozmary Pool, a natural lake associated with the Arthurian legend as the final resting place of Excalibur, this recently converted, detached and double glazed granite barn is centrally located in the heart of Bodmin Moor which is within easy reach of both the north and south coast. Situated within an SSSI, this is the perfect spot for walkers, birdwatchers and water enthusiasts just 10 metres from the waters edge.

Approached by a narrow unmade lane and private drive that slopes down to a large gravel parking area, from here the fully glazed front door leads directly into an open plan living room with a slate tiled floor and furnished to a high standard.

The well equipped, modern fitted kitchen has a butler sink and a large pine dining table with bench seats, and an adjacent comfortable sitting area with a wood burning stove and windows overlooking the water. There is one ground floor bedroom with a kingsize bed, lovely views of the garden and beyond to the lake, and an en-suite shower room W.C. with hand basin.

In one corner of the lounge, an oak staircase leads up to the first floor landing where there are a bathroom W.C. with hand basin and shower over the bath and two attractive bedrooms with twin beds, oak flooring and good views over the lake and the surrounding countryside. A first floor patio is reached via a glazed door off one of the twin bedrooms with granite steps leading down to the driveway, and at the front of the property, a walled and gated lawned garden and sheltered south facing terrace overlook the lake.

The grounds are enclosed but toddlers and pets must be supervised as the banks of the lake are just a few feet beyond the garden wall. There is space to store bicycles and beachgear in a stone outbuilding. It is possible to launch canoes on Dozmary Pool, there is a natural right to roam on foot over much of the surrounding moorland and there are lovely cycle rides in all directions. Jamaica Inn at Bolventor is 1.5 miles away, and the surrounding villages of Altarnun, Blisland, St Breward and St Cleer are all within 15 minutes by car and have a local shop and pub. The larger towns of Bodmin and Launceston are about a 20 minute drive respectively. Trout fishing and a watersports centre are available at Siblyback Lake nearby, and there are local stables offering horse riding.

Our rating method, the popular "smiles" system is generated entirely by the feedback we receive from our visitors. The number of smiles is arrived at by taking the average grading given to the question:

How would you rate the cottage's fittings, furnishings and equipment?’

A property will achieve a rating of 5 Smiles down to 1 Smile, although it is our policy not to carry any properties with ratings lower than 3 Smiles. The customer chooses from the following ratings:
  1. Excellent
  2. Good
  3. Satisfactory
  4. Below standard
  5. Poor
There are a number of properties that have been recently added to our portfolio and these are graded "New".
Pets

There is an extra charge for pets, most commonly at £18 pppw (per pet per week).

Assistance dogs are of course welcome in all our cottages free of charge, however owners of them should be aware that a considerable number of people are allergic to dogs and in some cases can have a severe reaction. Owners are therefore encouraged, where at all possible, to choose a property which normally allows pets.

Some properties accept pets other than dogs, but in all cases we are required to confirm consent from the cottage owner. Please contact the office on 01208 821 666 if you would like to take a pet other than a dog with you to one of our cottages.

A 5% loyalty discount is available at some properties for guests who have booked a second or further holiday within 2 years through Cornish Traditional Cottages. If you are eligible for the Loyalty Discount your final balance payment will be reduced accordingly after your booking has been submitted. The Loyalty Discount cannot be claimed with any other discount.
How to book

  1. Select the check box next to the week(s) you wish to book. Multiple weeks can only be booked consecutively. Non consecutive weeks must be booked separately.
  2. A summary of your booking will appear. To proceed with the booking select the 'Continue booking' button in the summary box. Deselect the weeks to remove the summary box.
  3. Weeks marked as 'Reserve' (highlighted in blue) cannot be booked at this point in time because availability and prices have not yet been agreed with the owner. You can reserve these weeks in your name until availability and pricing has been agreed. It is important to note that a 'Reserved' period can only be confirmed in your name if the owner wishes to make the Reserved period available for booking.
  4. 'Reserved' weeks (as opposed to 'Reserve' weeks) can only be booked by a customer who has 'Reserved' the highlighted period.

Pricing information

All prices are per week per property. Many properties promote an all inclusive price although some charge for extras such as bed linen, towels, heating and/or electricity. The Property description will detail any extra charges.

Definitions

Booked: A customer has committed to a holiday period by paying a deposit or the full amount for a rental period.

Reserved: When a property is not yet available to be booked, a customer can 'Reserve' the property in their name on a first come first served basis. When Cornish Traditional Cottages and the owner have agreed availability and pricing for your selected period we will contact you to let you know if you can then book the property in your name. A Reservation does not guarantee a booking because the owner has first right of refusal on all availability.
Short breaks

Some properties offer short breaks out of the high season periods. Short breaks cannot currently be booked online. Please phone us on 01208 821 666 to enquire about a short break.

Prices for short breaks are as follows:
  • Up to 3 nights: 62% of the weekly price
  • 4 nights: 71.5% of the weekly price
  • 5 nights: 91% of the weekly price
  • 6 nights: 100% of the weekly price
