Only a 15 minute drive from Bude with its fine sandy beaches and just 1.5 miles from the dramatic north Cornish coast, this 17th century, end of terrace, grade II listed thatched cottage is set in the quiet parish of Shop surrounded by unspoilt countryside.
Retaining great character, the property is entered via a gated path with one step leading down to a small entrance porch with coat pegs. An inner door opens directly into a traditional beamed living room with rugs on the original slate flagstones, low ceilings and an inglenook fireplace housing a coal burning stove. On one side of the living room, a dining suite is set next to a decorative Cornish Range and on the opposite side; lounge seating is arranged before the fire including a single foldaway bed for alternative sleeping arrangements.
At the rear, a low doorway leads into a part fitted kitchen with quarry tiled flooring and a dresser, and beyond there is a utility room with laundry facilities and a downstairs bathroom W.C. with bath, shower cubicle and hand basin.
The original enclosed staircase with rather steep carpeted stairs leads up to the small first floor landing where there are two cottage style bedrooms with partial exposed corner beams and a double and twin beds respectively.
A stable door from the utility room leads out to a private and sheltered patio garden which catches the sun, dogs will need to be supervised as the garden is not totally pet proof. There is a reserved parking space for one car in a layby adjacent to the property.
The nearest pub is the 13th century Bush Inn at Morwenstow and Rectory tearooms 1.5 miles away. Kilkhampton, just over 4 miles, has a selection of local shops and pubs, and for a wider selection of amenities Bude, 10 miles, has a leisure centre, supermarket, shops, restaurants, tennis courts and watersport activites. Duckpool and Sandy Mouth are both within 5 miles and offer pleasant pebble beaches with sand at low tide owned by the NT and are currently dog friendly beaches open all year. There are nature and woodland trails through Coombe Valley 2.5 miles away, and golf, fishing and horse riding are all available nearby.

Assistance dogs are of course welcome in all our cottages free of charge, however owners of them should be aware that a considerable number of people are allergic to dogs and in some cases can have a severe reaction. Owners are therefore encouraged, where at all possible, to choose a property which normally allows pets.
Some properties accept pets other than dogs, but in all cases we are required to confirm consent from the cottage owner. Please contact the office on 01208 821 666 if you would like to take a pet other than a dog with you to one of our cottages.
- Select the check box next to the week(s) you wish to book. Multiple weeks can only be booked consecutively. Non consecutive weeks must be booked separately.
- A summary of your booking will appear. To proceed with the booking select the 'Continue booking' button in the summary box. Deselect the weeks to remove the summary box.
- Weeks marked as 'Reserve' (highlighted in blue) cannot be booked at this point in time because availability and prices have not yet been agreed with the owner. You can reserve these weeks in your name until availability and pricing has been agreed. It is important to note that a 'Reserved' period can only be confirmed in your name if the owner wishes to make the Reserved period available for booking.
- 'Reserved' weeks (as opposed to 'Reserve' weeks) can only be booked by a customer who has 'Reserved' the highlighted period.
All prices are per week per property. Many properties promote an all inclusive price although some charge for extras such as bed linen, towels, heating and/or electricity. The Property description will detail any extra charges.
Booked: A customer has committed to a holiday period by paying a deposit or the full amount for a rental period.
Reserved: When a property is not yet available to be booked, a customer can 'Reserve' the property in their name on a first come first served basis. When Cornish Traditional Cottages and the owner have agreed availability and pricing for your selected period we will contact you to let you know if you can then book the property in your name. A Reservation does not guarantee a booking because the owner has first right of refusal on all availability.
Prices for short breaks are as follows:
- Up to 3 nights: 62% of the weekly price
- 4 nights: 71.5% of the weekly price
- 5 nights: 91% of the weekly price
- 6 nights: 100% of the weekly price
It is important to note that a 'Reserved' period can only be booked if the owner wishes to make the 'Reserved' period available for booking. Upon completion of your reservation you will receive confirmation by email or post containing details of the reservation.
