St Just-in-Roseland

This village of scattered cottages is close to a wooded inlet from the waters of the Carrick Roads and is perhaps most famous for its church and graveyard, the latter regarded by many as the most beautiful on earth. The vegetation in this sheltered spot is virtually tropical. Fuchsias, hydrangeas, lilies and many exotic shrubs abound. There is a tea room in season but most will want to travel the two miles to St Mawes for the wider choice there.

St Mawes

Lovely, incomparable St Mawes, faces south across the quiet waters of the Carrick Roads to the two great headlands that flank the entrance to Falmouth Harbour, two miles across the bay. For much of the year St Mawes has an almost Continental atmosphere and climate. The small harbour and the Carrick Roads are a mass of colour from the sails of the many tiny yachts and dinghies that frequent these waters. Although quite a small village, there is a sufficient range of shops for every day needs and Falmouth , 20 minutes by foot ferry, provides an even wider choice. For those who like wider stretches of beach, the golden sands of Porthbean and Pendower are under five miles by road and there are many quiet, small coves to explore.

Malpas

Situated in the enchanting Parish of St Clement, 1.5 miles from Truro, Malpas enjoys superb views across the confluence of the rivers Truro and Tresillian. A drive along the riverside through lanes shaded by leafy green trees leads unexpectedly to a few cottages set beside quiet waters. The village has the usual post office and Inn. For the beach going family, the coves and bays of the Roseland Peninsula are a drive of less than 30 minutes. Towards Falmouth, Loe beach on the Carrick Roads is 6.5 miles.

Truro area

A most pleasant County town by any standards at the tidal reach of the lovely Truro river. A few small coastal and river boats still use the old quays and some offer splendid excursion trips down the river to the Carrick Roads, Falmouth and St Mawes. This is a Cathedral City with some lovely buildings and a deal of charm. There is a wide choice of golden sandy beaches from the rollers and white surf of the north coast around Perranporth (8 miles) to the quieter coves and bays of the Roseland (9 miles via the King Harry Ferry).
