If one's eye finds beauty in the grandeur of granite cliffs, in expanses of golden sand, or in the wildness of untamed moor, then this coast and its hinterland between Bude and Portreath must surely be the loveliest part of England.

The cliffs are certainly the highest in the West Country and the cliff walking along them is challenging and exhilarating. This is a coast of changing character. The granite cliffs, which are 700ft high in the Boscastle area, recede to little more than sandy hillocks at Padstow estuary and Perran Bay.
The Atlantic waves may crash against the high cliffs or come ashore at numerous sandy bays in long rolls of gently tumbling surf.

The smaller rather lively resort town of Bude is hardly comparable with fishing villages like Boscastle and Port Isaac or Cornwall's main resort of Newquay. Just inland there are some verdant rolling valleys with tucked away little hamlets and villages, many bearing the names of long forgotten Celtic Saints. Bodmin Moor with its rocky outcrops and prehistoric hut circles provides bewitching scenery and lovely walks.
Of course the things to do in an area such as this are governed by the nature of the place, so swimming, surf-boarding, golf, fishing, riding and the like are all popular pursuits.
Places like St Agnes, Newquay, Padstow, Tintagel and Bude have all been developed to cater for the tourist so they generally offer restaurants, Inns, gift shops and such. However, it must be said in these terms the area is little exploited. There are still 'unknown' beaches to be found by the visitors, pubs where the Cornish accent dominates and views which have remained unchanged since History began.

The Glorious Atlantic is a place where one can get away from it all.
