Mevagissey is an historical old fishing village and although that industry steadily declines, it is still carried on.
Much of the summer boating is now for the visitors. There are several old pubs around the harbour and good places to eat, fish and shellfood being the speciality. Situated on the eastern side of the Roseland there is a wide choice of beaches and secluded coves. A walk along the cliffs to Polstreath half a mile, Pentewan, a long sandy beach with safe bathing, water skiing and wind surfing one and a half miles, Portmellon, a lovely little bay is half a mile and Gorran Haven two and a half miles. The famous Lost Gardens of Heligan are just 10 minutes drive away and The Eden Project is within easy reach.
