Lostwithiel

Historically this is a fascinating small town. Formerly a most important port, indeed, the capital of Cornwall, it sits astride the river in the beautiful rolling country of the Fowey Valley, about five miles from the sea.
The extent of its past glory is evidenced in the town by the remains of the Bishop's Palace and just outside it, the Black Prince's Restormel Castle. Nowadays it is a quiet unspoilt town with pleasant parkland. With many buildings which mirror the town's past, it has a good range of shops selling day to day requirements, Inns, restaurants, etc., and as tourism begins to touch the area, a small but growing number of antique retailers.

It is an ideal location for exploring the splendid Fowey River Valley and to discover the charm of the villages on its banks such as Golant and Lerryn. It is also within easy reach of the sandy beaches of the Cornish Riviera.
